Re: poor gas mileage...general solutions

clean fuel filter helps, o2 sensors i've found to help a bit, get your fuel injectors cleaned and valves, maybe new spark plug wires if yours are old and nasty looking. if you have crappy alignment that will take off some mileage. put your windows all the way up on the freeway for less wind drag...all these are little things but it adds up after a week or more of driving.
just general maintinance helps so your car doesn't work harder then it needs to. put your stock air intake back on. that's what i'm going to do when school starts. My CAI never did anything for me anyways so i'm just gonna put the stock one on with my K&N filter. of course that's just my personal opinion so nobody b#### at me about it.

Re: poor gas mileage...general solutions

Several things.

Cheap tires and/or low tire pressure hurt mileage.

Thick oil hurts mileage more than thinner, you should be running 5w30. Some people claim higher mpg by running synthetic, I have not seen that myself.

A level sitting car has a poorer aerodynamic profile than one that sits lower in the front.

A higher sitting car has a poorer aerodynamic profile compared to a lower car.

Windows up, AC off. If you have to have hte AC on get tint so the AC isn;t worked as hard.

No geegaws and junk on the body. That big rice wing or other doodads are a source of drag at anyspeed.

A clean fuel system, a bottle of Techron will clean up almost any injector short of one that's virtually plugged. A dirty air filter willkill mileage too.

A properly working igintion system, good plugs and wires. Timing is important if you can adjust it.

Don't carry 300 lbs of crap in the car that you don't need. The big sub box or those heavy tool boxes.

Don't drive like a jackass. Smooth and in control. No quick take offs after a stop and don't be crusing at 90 on the freeway.

A good coat of wax helps.

Re: poor gas mileage...general solutions

I get 310~ a tank on average, now I get more due to the oil I changed to, not much but a tad.

Clean the fuel filter, air filter, put injector cleaner in it, take it easy on it, and make sure you are checking it right by filling up fully and going to the light comes on, filling it back up adn taking how far you went and divide it by the gallons it took.

Re: poor gas mileage...general solutions

I get 250 miles and still have about 3/8 of a tank left when I fill it up. I have pushed to over 300 on occasion but I don't like to do that.

god i was lucky if i got that with the dsm. going to work and back was like 1/4 tank. dying o2 sensors and bigger injectors will do that.

so glad i can run 87 octane now. cost me 25 to fill up when it used to cost 30 to get 3/4 a tank, and the mustangs tank is bigger.

20 is my best on the highway now... I think some more tuning and I could be around 24 if I take it easy.

Re: poor gas mileage...general solutions

I'm happy. I'm guess I'm 300 to the tank. But I fill up around a 1/4 tank so it doesn't hurt so bad.
