NFL and Katrina

Warning: This is a thread about something much less serious than the current situation in New Orleans.

====================================================

It has been mentioned briefly about the home opener for the Saints being an issue since it is only like 2 weeks away. They talked how that game was really the only concern. Seeing the current status of New Orleans, I just don't see how the Saints will be able to play much of this season at home. Sure, the stadium is fine, but, the surrounding infrastucture is so fubared, I don't see how the city can support games. The power will be out for 1-2 months at least (after the water is gone).

So, has anyone heard anything about any plans or anything? I know they are moving refugees to the Houston Astrodome. Do the Texans play there? It just seems like games will need to be moved for a long while, not just the home opener like they mentioned on the radio.

Any thoughts?

Re: NFL and Katrina

Id say a University in northern LA would be more logical than trying to get them in the dome. I know when soldier field went under construction, the bears played at the Illini's football stadium in champaign, IL for the season. Something like that will more than likely take place.

Re: NFL and Katrina

I have been looking everywhere for info, and it seems that San Antonio is a probably target because the saint's owner is a big business guy from there or something. Blanco and some others here in Louisiana want to keep the saints as close to New Orleans as possible...they are in talks with LSU right now in hopes of them playing in tiger stadium.

I just don't see how they can think of playing in NO by Oct. They claim to be able to.

Re: NFL and Katrina

The Astrodome in Houston hasn't been used for any major league sports for several years, afaik.

I don't see how N.O. could support the fans and the game either, but I hope they can keep it very close to home.

just watched the discussion on ESPN News, they suspect the games are gonna be played at either LSU, San Antonio (where the practice), or the league is lookin into legion field in alabama.

lol, they don't wanna come in the big UAB backyard!!!!!

Legion Field is old and wouldn't hold the normal sized crowd of a Saints game, but if it's in AL, the crowd should be smaller.

The Dome is not fine. It is trashed. The water is now even rising in it. The whole toilet system is backed up with human waste the place stinks and the roof has a hole in it and the electrical system is shot. This year's season for the saints playing at home is toast. Hell the owner has been looking for another city anyway.

Hell their games can be moved to LSU for all that matter

Re: NFL and Katrina

LSU makes more sense if for nothing more as a means of a morale booster. Many New Orleans folks are here in BR currently. At least they could get some sense of "normalcy" if their team played here. It is up to LSU to step up to the plate on that one. I think it is a bad idea for them to move to Texas to play. Makes it seem like they are abandoning their state in a way. LSU is a staple here...it makes best sense to play there.

The Saints are worth watching? Many here in Louisiana would argue that. They still sell out games, but, no one seems to expect much of the saints here. lol

more so than the cowboys. That's just personal preference though. Out of the 32 teams, the Cowboys are my 32nd favorite team I am so tired of the NFC East.

I miss my KC Chiefs and AFC West.

I think they will try to go to LSU as much as possible but they have to try and juggle with LSU's home schedule as well. I dont think they will always beable to play in one stadium as their "home" field, they will have to play in many different places.

I'm ready for UAB to play UA or AU. I think they're both scared they'd get beat by another in-state school.

too much to read in this thread, but from what i understand, San Antonio is their number one choice right now. there were talks of them coming to SA years ago anyways...

There's supposed to be a deal coming soon with a UAB UA football game. We'd have spanked the hell out of them last year. We'll have to see how this year goes though. I give Brody 3 games before he's hurt.

We open against Tenn. at Tenn. We'll probably get beat, but we're getting several mil for playing that game.

Nobody is scared except for Alumni, Boosters and their betting pools. Last year Auburn would have destroyed UAB or any other in state school as they did all of the SEC opponents. The fact is Alabama was hurt by Injuries from the start of the season. I am not trying to say UAB does not have a decent team but year to year they just dont have the depth to taken on most of the SEC. That is not to say they dont have a chance. It is that when it comes to depth on the field they dont have the same caliber of players in the second and third string. You have to remember if UAB gets on a schedule of playing Auburn or Alabama they will spend most years losing and further costing them Bowl bids cause every loss hurts the ranking. But on occasion UAB would pull off the upset and beat them.

Ha, take out Auburns star quarterback and put in two guys that couldn't complete a pass to save their life and rely on a mediocre running game.

Then tell me how many games Auburn won last yet.

Oh yea that mediocre running game scared the **** out of Auburn in the first half.

God you are a hater. Get over it Auburn won 13 games and ended up #2 in the nation. Alabama played a good first quarter as they did all year and blew it after that. I will be first to say if Alabama had been healthy they would have had a better team but that is all in the past.

Nothing was mediocre about Auburn last year PERIOD!!!! They allowed 1 rushing T/D all regular season. #1 defense in the country Top 5 scoring Offenses in the country. 4 players in the first round draft

Re: NFL and Katrina

lol, I know UAB doesn't have the depth year to year that AU or UA has. Duh. We're small, young, and for the most part a science and math university, not a 'party cuz there ain't **** around but cows' university.

I just think it would be nice to have played UA last year and probably taken them. We don't even win our C-USA conference every year, much less be a serious competitor in the SEC.

They've been doing that for quite a few years lol. First game's this weekend against murray state. We'll come out, score a td first quarter, pick up the extra point. Then noone will score 2nd quarter. After halftime, the game is over, they will decimate and make a fool of us at our home field. I'm rather looking forward to this, I love pissing off our own fans when I start cheering for the other team from the msu band stands lol
