doing some research

it's on artificial intelligence, and someone made the statement that AIM bots showed "intelligence"... I want to show that it really depends on your definition. Does anyone know where I can get one of these bots, so I can try to get it caught in a loop, thus showing it isn't really intelligent? See, in order to "lead" you into a question, it generally needs you to give it info more than "yes" or "no".... so yeah.

Re: doing some research

I'll just ask, do you guys think it's "intelligent"? I don't think so, because it requires your input in order to reply... thus, it's like a virus, feeding off of you... and you're intelligence is supplying both sides.

Re: doing some research

hell no it's not intelligent. One of the computer buddies is SmarterChild.

He's just a computer, but he 'remembers' your name and whatnot. He can translate languages, do math, but he's nothing more than a glorified computer with a programmed 'personality'

It is only as intelligent as the human that programs it.

Re: doing some research

The AIM bots aren't at all intelligent. They're just a complicated equation. Variables in, results out.

exactly. they are designed to respond to you.. they look for key words, phrases, etc.. simply tricks.. to fool you to think they are "intelligent." they arent intelligent because they do not communicate on their own free will and have no form of actual thought process.

Re: doing some research

No program (thus far) has 1/100th of the brain power that it's programmer has, imo.

I haven't seen a program that is not completely baffled by "yes."

Re: doing some research

well, we have to look and see if it passes the Turing Test... and if it does, I think it's a stupid test.

Re: doing some research

mathematical computations are very easy for a computer. It's a very fast algorythm (sp).
