just did the 3g alt conversion

i know most of you later model stang guys already have the good, 130amp alternator, but some of us (fox guys) wernt so fortunate

me having a Turbo Coupe, which has the programmed ride control, twin electric fans, ABS with Hydrobooster, and almost every option, the electrical draw on the poor, stock 75amp alternator was killing it, if i was at a light, had the heat on, and hit the brakes, and the lights would go brown, real bad

so today, i got off my ***, went and pulled a 130 amp alternator from a 96 Sable, and had to do some grinding to the bracket to make it fit, the wiring was a bit tricky since i have different wiring than a stang, but it was straight forward

the results KICK ***, i can have everything possible on in the car, and my lights dont dim, and the alternator doesnt get nearly as hot

id suggest it to anyone

Re: just did the 3g alt conversion

Brad, you almost got me

the swap didnt take too long really, i had to grind down the mounting bracket, but what too a while was finding a suitable tool, and the air tools i have were out of the question because our compression was taking a dump

the wiring in the car is unique compaired to the mustang, but the wiring took me maybe 45 minutes, grinding the bracket down and all that took me maybe 45, and probably another half hour just putting everything together and neatening up the wires

so maybe 2 hours or so

Re: just did the 3g alt conversion

a 130amp

a lot of guys actually use the alternators from the pre 99 V6 stangs, since they use the same mounting points
