having cpu problems

I don't know what is goin on with my computer, but, ive been trying to play diablo 2 w/ a friend, and the game is lagging on me withme just standing there....thought it was the modem, reset it, and everything is fine there... its been a while since i defragged my computer,so i tried to do that and the computer closed the program, i don't know wtf is goin on, anyone got any ideas what i should do, or where to start. btw i can't reinstall windows if i have to, cuz its a copy of a friends.

Re: having cpu problems

run anti virus, spybot and ad-aware. You might have some bugs running that may slow up your computer.

Re: having cpu problems

Also make sure you have the system requirments to run the game. I once tryed to download battlefeild 1942 and the game kept crashing and such, turned out I didnt have the right video card.

Re: having cpu problems

im way over the requirements, its been running fine for the past week ive been playing, i just uninstalled some of the games i don't play anymore, like doom 3 and farcry, so i know for a fact its not that i don't have the requirements. Im running out of ideas, it did have to download a patch today for the game, maybe its something with that? but i don't know my friend says his is running fine. another thing, i tried to defrag and it opens the program, then immediately closes it. ive tried the ctrl+alt+esc to see if there is anything taking up memory and that closes as soon as i open it too...maybe i hvae a virus?

Re: having cpu problems

diablo 2 is not a system stressing game lol.... its pretty old. a reinstall may set it back up so it runs correct.... I have D2 also and its an odd game at times.

Re: having cpu problems

stick the windows CD in and go from there pretty much, its straight forward. do you have sata drives? if not then no worries really.

Re: having cpu problems

^since you reformatted, the first thing you should do is download antivirus and antispy software from reputable sites (www.zdnet.com)

i'd recommend AVG free edition as your virus scanner. i use it, and it's pretty efficient
another good antivirus scanner is panda activescan. you can get the pro edition for 6 months for like $10. and the pro edition does spyware removal too. great program
for antispy programs, i'd get microsoft giant antispy, adaware se personal, spybot search and destroy, and spywareblaster, and spysweeper (free edition)...

www.zdnet.com should have all of those programs for free

just be sure that your comp is protected before you start downloading random ****, or you'll be overloaded with spyware and viruses and bugs again

Re: having cpu problems

first thing i do after i format besides get a firewall, antivirus, and spyware progz is i download mozilla and uninstall IE completely from my system. however, if you still need to get on IE you still can.. get MSN explorer or windows messanger and view inbox.. it brings up IE even though its uninstalled.
