Anti AID virus

So I was about to watch a movie on my laptop and a codec screen popped up. I clicked on it not thinking and it started downloading this "antivirus program", I canceled it right away, but it was too late.

Now I'm getting these alerts and popups every 2 minutes saying that I have infected files. I looked "AntiAID" up and it's a ***** spyware virus that acts as an antivirus program to get you to buy their software.

Any computer guru's here know how to get rid of this thing without having to pay? I'd hate to have to enter "safemode" networking and manually sift through files to delete it.

AIDS is bad man, there's no cure for it. Try chemo?

Re: Anti AID virus

you will probably have to boot into your computer in safe mode, run your anti virus stuff (if you dont have any dl some) and check file history to see anything that has been modified about 10 minutes before you started getting pop ups and you can remove bad things. As far as the registry you can google what to look for in there.

Re: Anti AID virus

Yah that's what I figured. I know it takes time and is a pita, so I was trying to avoid it...but I'll have to give it a go later. But since it's already dug its way into the computer, that's probably the only way to remove most of it.

Re: Anti AID virus

if its a bad one, i doubt any antivirus is going to be able to get rid of it. its probably too embedded in your system for it to properly quarantine.

my parents had a bad one before that tried to sell them stuff like that. i think my sister got it off an infected song or something. this is what i used to get rid of it:

ComboFix | freeware

worth a shot.

Re: Anti AID virus

I read the whole page on that Combo Fix. Is it really that powerful and risky to use. It seems like it would eliminate most of the spyware.

Just backup your important stuff and reformat. It is the only safe way to go.

Luckily I keep anything of any importance backed up on my external, so if the worst happened, my stuff would've been safe.

Re: Anti AID virus

Before I downloaded ms essentials......my comp was so screwwed, I could not open anything by a double click....I'd get "path does not exist" and bs like that! The only way I could open ANYTHING was to right click, and "run as". That **** sucked!!!! I went for a month like that, til I found ms essentials.
