Files are just 1's and 0's on the hard drive. They are not always stored in a continuous sequence. They will sometimes be stored in a fragments spread all over the hard drive. It is kind of the same as have a 50 page term paper, and instead of it being in one pile, it is spread all over the room. Defragging will re-organize all the files so that they are in continuous 1's and 0's to make programs run smoother/faster because it doesn't have to run around the room finding all the pieces.

haha doing it manually is the only true way to defrag. i sometimes use sandpaper instead of steel wool though.

defragmenting your harddrives will not only make your computer faster but it will keep your harddrive healthy longer.

Re: So i havnt done a defrag in forever...

yea just double click on my computer so you can see all of your drives the floppy drive cd roms etc.

right click on the hard drive you want to degragment then go to properties. Under properties click tools and you will see the option to defragment. Just let it go at it, it takes a while so do it when you have some time to waste where you dont need the cpu.
