Re: Anyone with F-16 experience need a job

can you hold this job for about 11 more years till I retire? Also BTW, I'm suppose to go to Chattanooga this weekend. One of our F-16CJ's had a motor FOD out and they might need my Structural Maintenance expertise.

Re: Anyone with F-16 experience need a job

My wife used to fix C-130's in the Navy.

S-3's too as well as some flavors of helicopter.

Not me though, I was strictly surface fleet.

I work on P-3's, mainly on the motor which is the same as a C-130 but the herc's is upside down compared to ours. Oh and the herc's has a 10 stage compressor and the orions is a 14 stage compressor.

C-130: T56-A-10
P-3: T56-A-14

Re: Anyone with F-16 experience need a job

We have some 6000 certified and Mil spec vendors we cannot deviate from that list unless the military or Gov gives us the approval. Ultimately we a service center or as the Military calls it Contractor Depot Maintenance facility.

We are the largest contract maintenance facility for P-3's anywhere. We haver more P-3's than most Navy P-3 Bases.

We are adding F-16s to our Maintenance capabilities which already includes C-130's, A-10 Warthogs, C-9's, C-5, KC-10's, DC-10's, KC-135's and Gulfstream V's

We all know P-3's suck, might as well scrap them all and get a new airframe.

HAHAHHA That is funny because while I was a P-3 Inspector I personally condemned 2 P-3's for scrapping and we have scrapped about 7 so far in the last couple of years. There were at 1 time around 450 P-3's when it is all over with re-winging them there will be around 220 P-3's and the rest will be scrapped and parts used for the fleets

Problem is the powers at be picked the Boeing 737 to replace the P-3 instead of the updated version of the P-3 with glass cockpit and Improved unducted fan bladed allison engines like the ones on the new C-130 J's. What is so stupid is the P-3 can stay aloft with its outboard engines shut down and running on the inboards for 14 hours at patrol speeds. The 737 runs out of fuel inb 8 hours even with aux fuel bags installed. That means they will have to count on other resources to refill them like a tanker in air or land. The P-3 also has a bomb bay and wing hard points for torpedoes rockets, bombs and missiles. What does a 737 have NOTHING!!! Boeing has 3 years to have a prototype flying and most Engineers are betting they fail and the Navy comes back to Lockheed to build the Improved P-3. That is why we have the P-3 jigs ready to restart production when called on

Re: Anyone with F-16 experience need a job

The new P-3 would have been so much better, instead of changing the whole prop we could change just one blade if needed. I am a Mech CDI and would love to work on the new one so much better compared to this one. Another bad thing with the 737 though is that you have to be at an altitude of like 3000 feet to drop sono tubes but with the p-3 now you can be as low as 300 feet. Plus being able to loiter shutdown and stay on station longer. Plus IMO 4 Engine > 2 Engines just for safety reasons.

It is more than just a prop change with the new engine it also has increased the output 1000shp Which is shaft HPand gets 12% better fuel economy than previous engines

Yes I did a Fod Inspection with Gov Inspectors on it last week. When Government Inspectors start finding more FOD sround the base than normal. I will get out of my office and do combined FOD inspection with them. My daily job is laison between Gov DCMA Reps and Lockheed Martin anytime a quality issue comes up. I am the guy that investigates and provides corrective actions.

We have some really hard nose Gov guys that will raise hell when there is a ittle shavings around the work area during work. It is sometimes amazing the work we accomplish with all the hassles and gov rules we have to work with. What is even more amazing is a couple of years ago I went to Jacksonville to look at the Navy Depot there and it was a mess. The Military does not hold themselves to the same standards they impose on us. But that is the life of a Military contract company
