The reason you are gaining weight is because muscle weighs more than fat. If you are just wanting to lose weight, working out is not the way to do it. I've been doing the same thing, week to week I might lose 5 pounds one week and gain them back the next week. It's just part of building muscles.
If you want to lose weight, cardio is where its at. Anything that keeps your heart rate up for extended periods of time, running, joggin, stair stepper, and crap like that is what burns calories.
i went from 220lbs to about 165lbs in 4 months from playing Pump it Up and not eating nearly as much.
