Ok computer tech help please..

My bro 98Monte is having some serious computer issues.

He had a program in his computer pokapoka75.exe and probably some other programs hiding in there (from what I checked today) and he's unable to do anything on his computer.

Meaning.. he can't click on My Computer or any program. It just sits there.. and doesn't do anything. He can't use anything really. I got the Pokapoka75.exe program deleted, but it's still not doing anything. I'm sure there are more files hidding in his reg. I tried installing Hijackthis program but it won't run the program to install it.. so yeah.. ****ed much?

I'm going to ask a friend from work if he could come over and check it out for us. It sounds like he'll have to go through the start up reg. Ah well.. could anyone help at all?

Re: Ok computer tech help please..

I woulod boot it up in safe mode, then regedt32 at command line and look at the HKLM-Software-Microsoft-Windows-CurrentVersion-Run. If there is something in there that is not supposed to be delete it.

Or better yet, boot up in safe mode, run Spybot, or Adaware, and also Rootkit revealer. After ridding the computer of any spyware/adware, then defrag and look at the startup programs.

That might do it

Re: Ok computer tech help please..

here's the thing, he can't start any programs.

It can start in safe mode, but it still won't let him click on any programs. Like, you double click on My Computer and it gives the hour glass.. then it goes away back to the normal cursor.

Re: Ok computer tech help please..

Maybe you have the SirCam virus? It doesnt let you open up any programs at all. I had this virus before but lucky enough I could open the internet and got help.

I ran safe mode and did an online virus scanner since the one on my computer wouldnt open. Deleted them.

Read this: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/exefile.htm

All I did was run safe mode and do a virus scanner 6-7 times rebooted and everything worked fine.

Good Luck.

a reformat is the solution to almost every software issue. after the format, might want to help prevention of future problems. firewall, antivirus, spybot, etc.

Re: Ok computer tech help please..

Ok so here is what I had to do to finally get my speakers to work. I had to uninstall the audio drivers for the comp and then goto the hp website and download the drivers for the audio crap. Really frustrating that I have to do all that just for the sound.
