"Why did you move here?"

Ok, I get that question constantly. There doesn't seem to be a week that goes by that someone I am talking to will ask me that. Their reasoning "It's hotter than hell in the summer". Yeah, it is. I agree, there is a bit of heat in the summer. However, This is what I don't have to deal with anymore....granted, they have a heat wave coming this weekend so they will get out of the 20s, but still....they have 1-2 feet expected from a band of lake effect show that will move through the area today and tomorrow.

Man, I love the south....tomorrow will be top down cruise to work...and back home everyone's car is in storage, they are freezing, and they will have to shovel themselves out.

Re: "Why did you move here?"

south is nice, i tell you though... people are freaking out around here, we're expecting 2 inches of snow tonight. hell, when that happens, everything just shuts down. and since i haven't finished the build on the bronco motor, i don't even attempt to drive the gt... it's not really me scared of driving but more of the other idiots on the road.

Ha, if it snowed here...the state would be shut down in a state of emergency for several weeks.

yep, we usually get one or two storms a year... and i know the northern people are thinking we're crazy when we complain about this. it seems we get mainly ice and that is fun... trees falling, power lines down, good times.

Re: "Why did you move here?"

we are getting some sleet/snow right now, and it's supposed to get even worse as the day progresses. they haven't sent us home yet, so i'll probably end up sleeping at work....

Re: "Why did you move here?"

lol, this talk about everyone going crazy when snow falls makes me laugh... Im just used to it i guess being from iowa. We had high school go on with up to 6-7 inches of unplowed snow. When it gets into the 10" range, then they start cancelling school.

Normally we'd get a lot of "2 hour late starts" that would give the plows enough time to get the roads semi-decent.

Re: "Why did you move here?"

If there's a chance of flurries...everyone rushes to the stores and buys all the sterno and water and gas they can get their hands on. Then we proceed to all getting the 4 wheelers out and sliding around on them, a little safer than cars. If it ever ices where I live now...I'll never make it anywhere, got hills everywhere you turn.

That is exactly how it was when I was in school back in NY. The only addition is if the wind was so bad you couldn't see more than 50 feet, then they would also delay school for a while. Usually it started as a 1 or 2 hour delay, and if things didn't clear up, then they would close. It was, however, the last option.

Re: "Why did you move here?"

I like the snow in the 'once every 4 years' variety i get it in now.

People here wouldn't konw how to drive on ice or snow. If it looks like it might be wet AND cold at the same time, schools let out (but not UAB!) and peoples places of work close.

Same here, and people here live in it their whole lives and still cant drive in it. People either drive 20 MPH everywhere, or the crazy ****ers that think they are king **** and go 10+ over the speed limit and find ditches and trees. Is it that hard to go a steady speed and not smash the gas or brake to stay on the road??? K im done now.
