Remember the black AMS Evo??

Remember the black AMS Evo with 600whp? I had posted a link a while ago saying it was going back to get a larger turbo. Well, the shop has finished and well.... It is now faster than their record setting shop car. It beat their shop car on the dyno by about 50whp... and they're still not 100% done tuning. 42psi on C16 gas (like it would be driven all the time) yielded.... 826awhp and 597ft/lbs.

This is on a GT42r turbo. The turbo is about the size of your head. Oh, and best part... It reaches full boost before 5000 rpms. Meaning he still has 3000-3500 rpms of power before he needs to shift.

http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=174464

Forgot to mention. This was no nitrous. The owner has been thinking of spraying too. An extra 100-150 shot, what? First 1000awhp evo, what?

Re: Remember the black AMS Evo??

I thought you posted about one that was making like 808 awhp on 45 psi or am i confusing that with another one?

on a side note, i can't imagine how the engine holds up to all that stress. props for tuning it correctly.

Re: Remember the black AMS Evo??

ok to be totally honest

if they put the same setup in a V8 Stang, what numbers would we see?

I know this is a huge thing for Evo's, I respect that, just curious as to how much HP and TQ we'd see in a bigger engine

prolly around the 1000hp area given the same amount of boost on a motor that can handle it and a tuner that can tune it. then again, it would need slicks to even grab 4th gear, and would be completely useless on the street. and id love to see a modular or 5.0 hold up at 40psi and not be a full fledged sponsored racecar that doesnt have to worry about blowing motors.

that black evo is still driven daily. even though the owner has to use race gas, with the amount of money he has spent on the setup and tuning, 5-6$ a gallon is merely chump change for him.

Re: Remember the black AMS Evo??

Well, an Evo tuning company had a Viper that they put 2 GT35r's on (one step smaller than the 42r) and it made 1000rwhp. That's out of a V10. The torque was around 1100ft/lbs though. He couldn't drive the car hard. He went thru clutches so often that he sold the car. He was even working with ACT clutches to make him a track only clutch, but those were breaking. He tried to have it as a daily driver capable, but it turned into a headache.

Chris (the owner of the black AMS Evo) can still daily drive this car. He stroked it so it still has low end tq. But how many of his races online have you seen from a stop? They are always at around 60+. That's where high horsepower helps out. He still has enough torque to get it moving, but when a 42r kicks in, you get thrown your *** back in a seat. Same thing with the 1000rwhp supras. They are highway monsters because of only around 600rwtq.

But Thomas is right. I don't think there is a Ford engine or Chevy engine that could take 40psi of boost on the stock block. Chris had rotating assembly work done, but the block is still stock (99% positive)

Re: Remember the black AMS Evo??

yea no way a stock ford block could take that kind of psi, but they do make aftermarket ones that can... just expensive

He has two wastegates, and a blowoff valve

the pair of wastegates is most likely because with his combo, a single wastegate might not flow enough air, and cause boost creep, so a pair could flow enough to regulate the boost properly.

yup, he's running dual Tial wastegates and a Tial blow off valve.

This post makes me sad I don't have $30k to spend, and that I sold my Evo

compared to the viper's 1100rwtq, 600 isn't much. Hell, I had 400wtq on my evo before I left it. And that was on the stock turbo. It's all relative

yeah, especially since its about 150lbs/tq going to each tire, depending on the evo's power distribution being 50F/50R which i believe it is. and thats also 600ft/lbs at around 5k when the turbo hits full bewst, right at the point where you want it to pull on the competition.

but yeah, monkey, dont you hate it when you sell a car, then see some new **** for it like a week later? that makes me go GARRR like a pirate2:

its awd, so its not going to have much trouble launching. though at those power levels, breaking spider gears and halfshafts are bound to happen during hard launches, thus why even though it still awd, he goes from a roll as to put less stress on his drivetrain.

I am sure they will be able to put it to the ground just like they did with the previous 600. This dude would race anyone, and from memory, I believe the only person to beat him was a trailored in 60's chevelle or camaro gutted, slicks, and like 800ish hp strip car.

The guy with that car is a very humble guy if I remember right. Doesn't talk smack. Enjoys talking to all enthusiasts. An all around cool guy...that smacks everything that comes at him. I know a lot of whippled and kb'ed cobras have come after him, many with juice on top, and they couldn't take him down BEFORE the upgrade. With the upgrade it is going to make it even worse.

Now, the shop down the street from me just finished their shop car. I really want to try and talk him into running this guy because I think he will take him down. His car will is a street driven car as well and is also finishing up the tuning process. All I know is I Can't wait to see it run.

Oh yeah, his shop car is a twin turbo 04 cobra with a completely gutted and beefed up stock engine. Last I had heard they were expecting to put down about 1000 at the wheels. I haven't seen it on the dyno from the tunes or heard any official numbers yet, but they are shooting for 1000. I can't wait to see it run. Oh yeah, and the guy's wife has a single turboed 04 cobra. Man I wish they would adopt me. lol
