Re: For those who think 2wd's can't offroad

ok they can play in the water... there was no mud but maybe like 3-4" of it. I will try to get the vid of a mud bog here in indy and show you that 4x4's were gettin stuck. and most of those guys had to stay in the gas to keep it going. if they had stoped just for a sec. they would be stuck. dont get my wrong, i took my vic out in the "dirt" and I didnt get stuck.. 2wd is not that bad, as long as its little to no mud, and there is no snow.

Re: For those who think 2wd's can't offroad

^^I've seen plenty of hardcore mudding/offroading. However you can have just as much fun in a 2wd as 4wd is my main point. With some good tires and a locker you can go through some pretty nasty stuff. The black truck with the silver stripes has gone through some really deep tacky mud and has pulled out countless stuck 4x4's. Main reason why is because he has good tires l/s and he's a good driver. He also owns a 77 f100 ranger that is on 38in tires with a huge lift.

I'm just tired of people talking crap about 2wd's. I'm tired of hearing people telling me that you should take a 2wd offroad. Then why bother moddifying a v6 mustang? You "shouldn't" do it. I can go out and have just as much fun playing with my lifted 2wd ranger. I'm not going to do anything that will get me stuck. Reason why you dont see as many stuck 2wd's then 4wd's is because we know we have limits and a lot of the time people get to cocky with 4wd's and end up breaking something or getting stuck really bad. When I get to the point of wanting to do any hardcore offroading I will buy a beater for that. Otherwise i'm going to use my truck for what it was built for.

On another note. Most the trucks running the baja and simular races are 2wd, dune buggy's are 2wd. Most trucks in pro arena offroad racing are 2wd. I'm just trying to make a point that for anyone telling me not to offroad my 2wd truck is just being a hypercrit when they are sitting there modifying a v6 mustang. If anything that person doing so should understand my arguement and not sit there and tell me otherwise.

I'm not trying to start a fight. Just trying to get my point across

Re: For those who think 2wd's can't offroad

That actually looked pretty fun...I gotta find me a truck dangit.
O, and as far as the 2wd versus 4wd...I've carried a 2wd ranger much much further than most normal ppl could carry a 4wd truck. I only really buried the ranger once...and that's because the rear axle was bottomed out lol. I actually pulled out a jeep....twice....in a 2wd ranger. (that was jeremy for those that know him)

i'm not anyone to make fun of anyone else (I did drive a V6 stang for a year)

But I do have 4WD, front and rear lockers, and a 4:1 and I will assure you, there is no chance in hell a RWD LSD can go off-road with me.

Not to knock RWD trucks AT ALL, and you guys are having fun - but RWD or 4WD, the stuff I saw in that video ... you all should be ashamed. We have enough trouble with illegal wheeling and the tree huggers, to have 2wd trucks being stupid 'off road' and POSTING IT ON THE INTERWEB.

That video does more harm than good.

That was in an official offroad park. Not just some random place. I know a 4wd with lockers will do a lot more extreme offroading then a 2wd truck. That is why I said whenever I decide i'd want to do serious offroading I would buy a beater 4wd. I would also like to know how they were being "Stupid"? Most the guys over on my ranger forum are not going into illegal areas to go offroading. Every body goes to legal offroading spots. So no the video does not do any harm.

Re: For those who think 2wd's can't offroad

2WD's can definitely be fun. A friend of mine used to have a little five-speed Mazda B2200 that we'd take around the trails behind his house. The trails were pretty wide, about 8-10 feet across even at the most narrow places. There were a couple of mud holes, but nothing major. Mostly just slick Alabama red clay.

We would haul *** down the trails like it was a rally car. It was fun as hell flying around the corners and then coming down the straight-ways sideways. We eventually got it stuck and cracked the block trying to get it out though...

Oh well, he only paid $200 for it and ended up selling it for $250 with a cracked block.

Dude...I was driving around at lunch today with the windows down and sleeves rolled up, felt great here, can't be that much different there. It was 21 degrees this morning when I woke up, and around 55 at lunch, crazy weather. My car was a solid piece of ice this morning.

Re: For those who think 2wd's can't offroad

Out of curiousity, why would a baja racer need 4wd? Theyre not doing anything special either... Hell a v6 mustang could go baja racing with a little lift and some tires for the sand. Theres no point in having a baja racer 4wd, theyd just lose power/top end through the drivetrain. Also, comparing modding a v6 to a v8 opposed to going offroading in a 2wd vs 4wd is two completely different things. Modding a v6 would have the intention of going faster, not trying to drive through puddles :wth: 2wd can go places, yes. However, once you get out of the 2 1/2 foot puddles and find a place with some mud thats at least 8" deep as well as something other than a dirt nature trail to drive on... then come back and tell us how sweet the 2wd's are.

Re: For those who think 2wd's can't offroad

in the baja stuff (prerunner set ups) are usually 2wd or AWD. that is how they run. they really dont run 4x4s.
