Technically, neither does Louisana. They are the New Orleans
Saints, after all.
Which got me thinking... How many NFL teams are associated with cities vs. states vs. regions... So I decided to do some research:
Baltimore Ravens - City - Population 2,668,056
Cincinnati Bengals - City - Population 2,155,137
Cleveland Browns - City - Population 2,250,871
Pittsburgh Steelers - City - Population 2,462,571
Houston Texans - City - Population 5,728,143
Indianapolis Colts - City - Population 1,715,459
Jacksonville Jaguars - City - Population 1,313,228
Tennessee Titans - State - Population 6,214,888
Buffalo Bills - City - Population 1,254,066
Miami Dolphins - City - Population 5,413,212
New England Patriots - Region - Population 14,303,542
Jets - City/State? - Population 19,006,798/19,490,297
Denver Broncos - City - Population 2,506,626
Kansas City Chiefs - City - Population 2,053,928
Oakland Raiders - City - Population 7,264,887
San Diego Chargers - City - Population 3,001,072
Chicago Bears - City - Population 9,785,747
Detroit Lions - City - Population 4,425,110
Green Bay Packers - City - Population 226,778
Minnesota Vikings - State - Population 5,220,393
Atlanta Falcons - City - Population 5,376,290
Carolina Panthers - State - Population 9,222,414
New Orleans Saints - City - Population 1,167,294
Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Area - Population 2,733,761
Dallas Cowboys - City - Population 6,300,006
New York Giants - City/State? - Population 19,006,798/19,490,297
Philadelphia Eagles - City - Population 5,838,471
Washington Redskins - City - Population 5,300,000
Arizona Cardinals - State - Population 6,500,180
San Francisco 49ers - City - Population 4,203,898
Seattle Seahawks City - Population 3,344,813
St. Louis Rams - City - Population 2,850,002
So New England and New York get to have the most fans. Poor Green Bay barely gets to have any fans at all.
I used the metro area populations for the cities, I figure if you live close enough to be in the metro area, we'll let you cheer for the team. I also learned that New York isn't part of New England. Who'da thunk it.
There are 26 (or maybe 24) teams that are for cities.
There are 6 (or maybe 4) teams that are for states (Since nobody specified for New York).
There is one team that is for an entire region (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont).
And one team that is for a body of water. Rather than using the population of the actual bay (which would probably be close to zero) I used the population from the Tampa Bay Area wiki page.
