FDR was a power hungry goon.

Teddy Roosevelt on the other hand, was the man.

Goon huh?

If Teddy had a D after his name I somehow believe he would not make your favorites list.

Re: Best Presidents

There is no one greatest President in my opinion. Since times have changed there have been oppurtunities for both Presidents to show their true colors in leadership and show their ugly colors as well.

Some of my favorite Presidents are:

George Washington
Thomas Jefferson
Abraham Lincoln (Very good President)
Teddy Roosevelt
Woodrow Wilson
Franklin Roosevelt
Harry Truman
John F. Kennedy
Ronald Reagan
George Bush Sr.

Now all of those I consider real fine leaders.

Our current President, Bush, would have fit into that category if you asked me this Pre 9/11 and even months up to the Iraq war.

Now he does not favor so well in my eyes. He has been plagued with controversy within his Party and even his leadership/character are in question 3 years after we invaded another country.

B/c clinton lied under oath about it. I could care less what he did in his own time...but why did he have to lie about it?

I will have to disagree and stick with my list.

Do you know anything about Bush Sr other than he is the current Presidents father? Bush Sr is a very honest and humble man. I would hope you could see past your views of his son.

I guess you hate every person that lived in Jefferson and Washington's time then huh? Since they all had this same mentality.

See this is why i could not pick one. I listed those that I felt were good Presidents for their time, not good Presidents in today's time.

Re: Best Presidents

i never stated i hated any of the people you listed. just disagreeing with you over the aptitude of their presidency based on their morals

in washington's time, not everyone owned slaves. some people thought slavery was wrong and opposed it even then...

reagan had the whole whitewater scandal

sure, clinton lied about his personal life. who doesn't? how many guys say "yea, i banged that chick" when in truth they've never been in the same room with the girl? clinton did the opposite, so he's a "bad president"?

as for bush senior. he's the one that repealed the law that made it illegal to attack a sovereign country in order to change it's system of government, thereby laying the foundation for dubya's war. the apple doesn't fall far from the tree

Re: Best Presidents

Psst Reagan was not whitewater

I agree with not making it illegal to attack a country to change their government.

If you believe Bush Sr planned for his son to get into office 8 years after him and attack Iraq you rank up there with the 9/11 Conspiracy Theorists lol

Re: Best Presidents

The best President's, IMO...

George Washington
Not because it's the old "He was the first, and he's the only one I know by name and I don't know the name of the current president", but because he could have become Emporer Washington if he had desired. He was the first and the example setter, and American's wanted him to serve until he died. He was the leader of an army that should never have had a snow ball's chance in hell of driving the English Empire off of their land.

Ronald Reagan
Honesty, integrity, and a man of few words but every word was filled with meaning. He helped to bring about the end of the Evil Empire (which, in honsety, was crumbling anyway, but he accelerated it). The American hostages in Iran were set free the day he was inaugerated because the Iranian's knew that, unlike Carter, he would keep his word and tear Iran apart to get the Americans back. He revived patriotism in an America trying to recover from the generation that spat and cursed our troops that were coming back from Vietnam. After one of his speeches, everyone had their little flag out. He rebuilt our military from the disrepair that it had fallen under because of his predecessors, and reinforced the fear of angering "The Sleeping Giant". Oh, and he won his re-election 49 states to 1, and that 1 was his opponent's home state.

Why was FDR brought up? He prolonged the Depression and put "Big Government" into full swing, wouldn't stay out of office, and his brainchild "Welfare" is one of the causes of slum holes like what were in New Orleans that we have to hear about so much. He did at least have a back bone in WWII and was a good communicator but that's about it.

Don't get me started on Clinton. I will ignore the obvious point about purjery but he has a laundry list of "accomplishments". Instituting the biggest tax increase in American history, bombing Aspirin factories in Sudan and firing scuds out into the middle of the desert to get people to behave, doing nothing when it came to the terrorist attacks that killed many Americans, his administration politely handed over our nuclear secrets to the world's up and comer super power, China, continued to grow "Big Government", had Osama Bin Laden handed to him on a silver platter and said I don't want him, etc..

Re: Best Presidents

Did you know George Washington wasn't our first president?

He was the first president OF the United States, but before we had the united states we had other presidents before him.

I found this out like last month and was floored. Still cool though, impress your friends and family and stick it to the man :O

Re: Best Presidents

FDR hardly prolonged the depression though WWII was the main reason for the economy growth that put the depression behind us.

Those social welfare programs had a purpose in the 40's so don't hate a President that made something that was effective for its time.. hate the current and recent administrations for not putting an end to and/or reforming them in todays time.

Reagan made people proud to be Americans again, led the nation through one of the greatest economic booms, and fought back communism.

FDR started the culture of government dependance (i.e. welfare state)

Re: Best Presidents

Eisenhower.

Persons travelling through the United States today may find it difficult to imagine our country without the Eisenhower Interstate Highway System. It was not until June 29, 1956, when President Eisenhower signed the Federal Aid Highway Act, that interstate highways began to meet the challenge of the growing number of automobiles on the nationís highways. While in Europe during World War II, then General Eisenhower viewed the ease of travel on the German autobahns. That, coupled with the experiences of a young Lt. Col. Eisenhower in the 1919 Transcontinental Convoy convinced the President of the overwhelming need for safer and speedier highways. The President also felt that the newer, multi-lane highways were essential to a strong national defense.
