Applying to grad school

I found a grad school that really intrests me. University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Going to apply for their Neurobiology Ph.D. degree plan since they have a special program that you don't need to obtain a masters first Just thought I would share since I haven't been online much lately. I've been busy getting my application and everything together.
Wish me luck

I was going back to get my master's. I'm getting ready to drop my class and give up on that whole ordeal.

Re: Applying to grad school

If I don't have a good job by the time the fall semester rolls around, I may go to UAH for mine too. Trying to find a job fresh out of school with no experience really blows. I just wonder if a master's would actually help.

Re: Applying to grad school

no, it wont you will price yourself out of the market, they would have to pay you more due to your degree and you dont have any real world experience so they will pick a BS degree person over your masters.

depends on his major. Some jobs require a minimum of a Master's

The only advice I can offer you is this: If you get a Master's, make sure it is in a field you want to stay in for the rest of your life. It is not wise to go and get a Master's and still not know what you want to do with your life. Take a break from school and get a job (any job near what you want to do) and see if you really like it. Then go from there. You really should know what you want to do with the rest of your life if you persue a Master's.

Re: Applying to grad school

it does depend on his major, he has the same degree is me and in this case thats how it goes but you are right, check your field first to determine what the case is for your.

Re: Applying to grad school

Well, the good thing about a Master's is that a lot of jobs will require a couple less years of experience if you have one. I've seen several jobs that specify 6+ years with a BS, but only 3+ with a MS. Not to mention the possibilty of higher pay down the road. And as long as you go in without expecting a lot of extra pay because of the Master's, it definitely won't hurt your chances of getting an entry level job.

Besides, if no one is gonna hire me, I'm gonna have to do something to be more attractive to employers. Apparently a near 4.0 GPA isn't enough these days... maybe I should look into breast implants.

Re: Applying to grad school

they have levels of pay though, they offer you based on your education level, if they have two people one wtih a masters and one with a BS degree applying for the same job and both have no experience then they will go with the BS degree guy, less pay same basic work~

If its nearly impossible to find a job with a BS degree it will be harder with a masters in our field unless you want to teach, but you wont make crap around here~ like 25k starting off at UNA lol which is a joke, and you have to sub in before that to help secure a spot, got 15k a year if your lucky about 1200 a class~
