Re: Evo hits 900 hp

****in AMS at it again. you gotta love teh 4g63, takes boost like a slut and comes back for more every time. i hope the next generation replacement is just as strong(hopefully stronger) than the current 4g63, i hear the evoX is supposed to use the 4g93 powerplant, using Direct Injection(fuel injector sprays directly into cylinder), because of the design and the injector only spraying close or at TDC this basically rules out preignition/knock and the 4g93 will be running almost 11:1 compression. only drawback is i hear fuel pressure has to almost be at 600psi, compared to 40-50psi most cars run. not many a injector can open/close at 600psi. though if mitsu follows through, itll put them in the forefront with this design.

Re: Evo hits 900 hp

while it made over 900 at the wheels peak, its average numbers dont seem as if they would be too impressive.

Re: Evo hits 900 hp

average numbers dont mean jack **** when racing though. the ams evo's are meant for two things, drag strip and long freeways. after 1st gear, its all about the top end.

I agree. I wish I could see a still of the full dyno graph because it looked like an incredibly steep slope. 900 hp is definitely still impressive, but it looks like a dyno queen to me. :dunno:

I wonder how much he actually drives it.

Re: Evo hits 900 hp

it is incredibly steep, but i doubt its a dyno queen. from 2.5-5k its like foreplay, from 5.5k-8.5k its like pure sex. it takes a bit to spool, but with that huge of a turbo, it makes it all worth it.

just look at the past videos of ams evo's on the street and track, theyre meant to be driven. its still just a evo. aside from a huge turbo and forged internals and nice fuel system, its still a evo and can still be driven like one. its not some fully fledged drag car, it still has all the amenities of a normal evo. 4g63 for teh win.

Dude, you let me down here.

Any sort of racing, you want a board powerband, and a high average. Anyone can make XXX horsepower over a 200rpm span, and if your car is fast, you wont see that 200rpm span for anything more than a split second. I need to get my friends dyno plots, his 383 stroked made over 400 horsepower from about 3,800 all the way to 6,500, and he peaked at 436.

watch the video again. The turbo spools at 5,200rpms and they rev it to 9,000. That is more of a power band than your friends 383 4,000rpms of pure boost.

Plus they are going to put nitrous on it eventually for lower boost times. He has a 2.3L engine and thus has ample torque when out of boost on the daily driver.

Oh, and check out Chris' post
http://forums.evolutionm.net/showpos...&postcount=155 about what's to come :p

edit: But I forgot this is a domestic's only forum, so death to all imports, no matter how awesome they are

Re: Evo hits 900 hp

They ended the run at 6500, the engine has the capability to run to 7,500, but with the transmission, gears, tires, and everything else, its useless to rev it that high. They dont know if the power drops off at 6500 or keeps pulling.

not really.

say we take this ams evo to the track. we bring up the rpm's to 5.5k via Studderbox and build almost 15psi at a launch. we take off, slipping the clutch and getting a badass 60ft of almost 1.3. there was no lag on the launch due to the studderbox launch.

redline first @ 8.5k, get into 2nd at roughly 5k, the turbo spools almost instantly at that point
redline 2nd @ 8.5k, get into 3rd at roughly 5.5k and take it all the way again, hitting 3rd at around 5.5k again.
redline 3rd @ 8.5k again, get into 4th at around 5.5-6k
take 4th all the way to the line.

now in what point of that drag race did any rpm UNDER 5k come into effect? i think it was the point between the pit to the staging area. and trust me, if a older 4g63(like dsm's use) have no problems seeing 8k rpm's(my buddy sees 7650 weekly at the track, but has done 8k on the freeway), a newer 4g63 isnt gonna worry about 8.5(especially with cams and headwork). shep revs to 11.5k. brent rau to 11k as well.

Thats assuming he is running on a 2-step. Think about this, say 500hp at the wheels being dumped on an already weak transfer case. Im not in the Evo loop, but if i remember correctly, the transfer case in those arnt that strong, even in modded form. Want to launch an AWD Evo at 5,500 on a 2step? I wouldnt.

Shep and Brent both run filled blocks. I know Sheps engine builder.

Re: Evo hits 900 hp

Yeah, I was reading the thread where the vid was originally posted and they basically said the driveline is no where near stout enough to run the car hard at the track. So the car pretty much is only useful for racing high mph races on the street from a roll, which is cool I guess, but just not my cup of tea.

Does anybody know if they ever posted the dyno graph? I looked the other night and never could find if/where they posted it. I'd be interested to see exactly what its powerband is. I also wonder if anyone ever got the good 'ol Ford 2.3L up to power levels quite that high...

Shep and Brent both run filled blocks. I know Sheps engine builder.
shep runs a stock transfer case. and im pretty sure a evo's tc is better than the dsm ones, after all, dsm's got the hand me downs, and we hold all the records.

sheps builder used to be BJ's, but im almost positive they went under a while ago. heres his spec sheet on the site, i dont know how updated it is, but as far as it says, stock block and crank.
http://www.shepracing.com/sr_dragtalon.html
ever see a 4g63 block? its pretty closed as it is, thus why it can do 500hp without touching anything under the valve cover, save for maybe a better head gasket and arp studs(both which the evo doesnt need until 25+psi) to keep the head from lifting off at higher boost. even though ive seen 22psi and others 25psi weekly on stock everything with no problems.

and up until last season, brent was running stock block/crank as well. his record was a result in switching to the built 2.4L.

Re: Evo hits 900 hp

Turbo guys and their long confusing conversations and arguments..

So.. we got a 4cyl light *** Evo doing 900hp

if we got a Cobra doing the same numbers, the Evo would be quicker due to the weight correct? Would the Cobra do better against the Evo at SC or TC?
