Work has been interesting!

Well as most of the ME elite know.. I work for Toyota..

And if you guys haven't seen the news lately, you all need to get out more

It's been interesting in the sense that I haven't hardly had a minute to myself.. Last Wednesday (Jan 27th) Got into work and within an hour was told to go home and pack a bag... Left less than 3 hours later for the airport, another hour after that was on my way to Atlanta.. Then lovely and exciting Evansville, IN :pnoid:

Anyhow.. They had me working on the night shift at the plant, overseeing certain quality check operations.. From flying directly to a 10 hour nightshift was rough!

Finally got back Friday night.. and basically slept around 20 hours, 8 hours here, 8 hours there, 4 hours here.. about to grab some more sleep haha

It was a rough week.. Was able to bank like 30 hours of OT, though..

However.. was told I had to go to the port on Monday for some training and I'll be flying out, probably to Newark not far into the week..

I apologize for my absences, it's quite a unique time for my company

lol.. It's beyond just the pedals, we have the tundra frames, now prius brakes, and of course the ECU updates to add in the brake-override

BTW I am going to keep driving my 2010 Camry and not worry about it in the least.

That's what you get for working for the enemy lol.

I was wondering where your involvement in this process would be.

The ally put out a hiring freeze after offering me a position, pulling back their offer - Toyota as a company seems to be a lot more fun to work for - chances are with Ford I'd still be on the TAC hotlines helping dealers, that's no fun! I've had my hand in a lot more things here than I would have at Ford.

IMHO this whole thing is getting blown way out of proportion, media frenzy like whoah.. and the main kicker of this cascade was a dealer put the wrong floormat in an ES350, the pedal was still stuck under the mat AFTER the wreck...

Personally, I know how to control my car if a brick falls out of the sky and melts the gas pedal to the floor - Neutral is not hard to find.

Anyhow.. I'm not going to get into that aspect of it anymore, I'm tired of debating this with friends/family so I'm not going into it here lol

Like any company they all have their fair share of problems. I think Toyota will make a comeback.

Re: Work has been interesting!

A job is a job in today's market. If I were in the same position, I probably would've taken the job at Toyota as well. Especially if it is something more enjoyable than the last one. Keep us posted it's nice to read about the behind the scenes stuff.

At least you get to travel :dunno:

I have to say, is anyone surprised that a Japanese company is having problems with stopping? These are the same people that just flew planes in the ground (Kamakazi's) [It was a stretch of a joke but I went for it, sounds better in my head]

The problem is, Kamakazis never had a problem stopping. Every single one of them stopped every single time.

This is true. Maybe I should of said something like "Their solution to stopping..."

Hope you get caught up soon and get some rest. As mentioned, in this economy any job is good right now.

Opinions are like ********... but that's just my opinion.

Back on topic, Monte, its good to have a job especially one you like and at this time. I'm pretty sure Toyota will be the competitor they've proven to be.

Thanks guys haha...

And upton.. no offense but we already know what you and most people think about Toyota on this site.. That was not the point of this thread, sorry if I came across too strong!

I landed Friday and had 3 nights to get back on schedule.. and now they're shipping me out again, this time to my home grounds (Newark!)

The OT is going to keep rolling in..

Not sure how long this trip will take

Well regardless of the whole situation I'm sure you'll enjoy all that OT when it's resting in your account

All told, 25.5 hours OT, .5 hours double time for the previous pay period = ~$1100 before taxes

Already up to 2 hours this pay period so far.. it will only go up from here

Re: Work has been interesting!

awesome! well... kinda... from the overtime perspective haha.

a few months ago i was OT eligible as well. i get time and a half until 48 hour weeks and then double time after that. i was dipping into double time nearly every week for a few months.

the work sucked, but the paychecks were nice. however, the biggest downside was that i got too used to the overtime. when the overtime stopped, it was back to the typical pay. and it was hard to readjust. almost depressing lol.

Well just a quick update.. Was back in CA all of 3 days, then flew out to Newark just in time for the two snowstorms - Just got back to CA again yesterday - working today til Friday, Saturday I'm flying back to Newark for a few days

Total so far: 4 days home out of about 30 lol.. And after a few more days at Newark, Kentucky is a strong possibility
