Possible New Job..

I am interviewing next week for a new job as an assistant car buyer at a dealer ship. Has anyone done that type of job before?

Re: Possible New Job..

So would that mean you buy cars for dealers? like at auctions and such?

Re: Possible New Job..

From the description it sounds like I would be helping the dealer by listing cars on the website, assisting with appraisals and working with the sales department to secure customers cars. If that makes since. It's an entry level position but seems like a decent to have while going to college.

Re: Possible New Job..

I've worked at a dealership as a salesperson and I have no idea what that job would entail.

Re: Possible New Job..

i think you are right.

when you hear assistant, usually it means you are a junior level of a title without the assistant (ie assistant manager is basically a junior manager). but that would imply you are a junior version of car buyer which isnt very logical.

but it sounds more like you will be an assistant to the car buyer. probably more along the lines of an assistant car salesman minus the selling. you probably just butter them up on the lot, help with appraisals and act like a customer service rep getting them water, making donut runs to krispy cremes, etc.

i had a few non-internship jobs in college. anything that pays is good enough for me lol. much better than washing dishes. although more girls worked at restaurants than a car dealership i bet.

as long as you dont work on comission or have to put up with that crap you should be ok to give it a try.

Re: Possible New Job..

Keep in mind it could end up being more of a lot attendant/donut run job, but either way, you're around cars all day and it pays the bills while in school. Good luck and keep us updated

Re: Possible New Job..

Thanks guys! Glad to hear your inputs. Wednesday is the interview. As everyone else said it pays the bills and is much better than washing dishes. Ultimately, I want to get into the automotive business somewhere. It sounds better than my current job which I don't mind, but cars are more my thing.

Re: Possible New Job..

Hello all! It's been a while since I've been on. The interview was today, I think it went pretty good. I didn't realize that this place is almost 40miles from my house. The job is basically taking pictures of the cars for the most part. The interviewer made it sound like I'm going to be doing whatever they want me to do. The job has very little customer interaction, which doesn't excite me much. Unless the pay is a lot better than what I make now, I'm not going to do take it, if they offer me a position.
