So.. we went for a test drive.

Yes yes, we test drove the poorly reviewed GTO.

I know a lot of you are wondering, why the hell would you do that? Well, a few reasons.

First, 98monte is looking for a new car, he wants to trade his POS Monte Carlo for something better. Secondly, a Pontiac AD on TV brought up a few good points about why a GTO would be better than a Charger. And 98Monte has been looking at getting a Hemi-Charger. The Charger is more expensive, and slower than a GTO. The GTOs have 400hp/400tq and they are cheaper.

So I told this to him and he's like "Well, might as well check them out"

So we went to the dealership and asked the guy working there about the GTO's and if they had the same or more trunk space as the Charger. He gave me a frown and said "Well, you're going to be disappointed.." he opened the trunk, and Oh Good LORD there's like no room back there!

So that was a let down.. we were thinking about leaving, but I asked the guy if we could go for a test drive, he was more than happy to get us the keys.

He even told us to punch it once we got out of the dealership.

Let me just say. Holy ****

This thing roars when you rev it, it snarls and leaps forward when you punch it, and it sits comfortably!

Except for maybe tall people in the back seats, but short people will find it kinda nice back there. The front seats were perfect, they fit me like a glove. I was quite surprised with the GTO, I won't be thinking it's such a horrible car anymore.

well from what the guy at the dealership told me, they are changing a few things with the GTO for next year, and apparently they might change the body. Hopefully to something retro?

the power is awesome im sure. i just don't see anyting in the styling for the most part...looks way to blah to be a 400 hp car..and the rear...

I know, I read that too. But when the guy told me they were closing a plant over in Australia where they made these cars and are making one here in the US and they'll be changing a few things with the car, and maybe including a new body.

Holdens arent all that bad i have to say. I mean they are built in Aussie land but they are powerful cars. When I was in Aus, the only big conflict was whether you liked Ford or Holden. Its kinda like the Ford and Chevy thing here. I mean in Aus the cars looked so much alike you wouldnt know if it was a Holden or a Ford until you saw the emblem. But anyways back on the subject...Holden wouldnt be such a bad idea here in the States, they know what people want, which is more power at the wheels.

Holden is GM's make Down Under. So technicallly, it'd be a Monaro. That's what it looks like anyway. Why GM couldn't just bring it over under the Pontiac Monaro nameplate is anybody's guess. Those of us who read GM High Tech Performance already knew all about 'em. If you're gonna throw the GTO nameplate on a car, it better pay tribute to the GTO of old.

They're awfully powerful, a bit overweight, and hideously under-styled.

I spent $8k on a rustang.. and I've had a reliable turn-key 11 second car for the past 6k miles..even if I have to dump more cash into it whenever.. it'll still blow the GTO out of the water 10 years from now when I'd STILL have less invested..

tell your bro to get a nice car to drive every day.. and a nice side project to build up as he sees fit..

the power is good but the price is steep, the looks are crappy, the interior is very nice though. I would pick an 03/04 cobra over those turds anyway. The hp per dollar is definatly better. They are not going to make the GTO anymore right now due to they suck and no one wanted them. They may be comming back out with another turd soon (but maybe they will actually get it right this time... I dont see it happending though. They did great things with the new vette but thats ALL they have)
