Re: Ford Motor Company - Stop Digging Your Grave

This is absurd.

When I first got my Mustang, I had no idea what I could do with it. Through the information and resources provided by sites such as this one, I have become an incredibly avid Mustang enthusiast. I have gladly given more and more money to Ford and companies affiliated with Ford. I understand the need to try to control the use of a Ford nameplate, but this is rediculous.

Mustang enthusiast are some of the leading front runners of the long held Ford vs. Chevy/GM rivalry. These are the kind of people that you are alienating. These people are in most cases solely responsible for now national events and races that you as Ford Motor Company have conveniently attached your name to in order to gain more publicity.

Ford as a company owes much of it's current income to sites and companies that have been using the name Mustang in their name and advertising. If they are not going to use the word "Mustang" what do you expect them to use?
Are you going to claim copyright infringement when someone refers to North American Mustangs? Mustang is not a copyrightable word. It is an American tradition and part of American culture.

If this is done, I will not buy another Ford because I feel that I have been betrayed by the very company that I have been loyal to.

Hmm...I remember telling you something about this about a year or two ago about putting "Not affiliated with ford" at the bottom of the page. Now they are moving on it more rigorously.

Hmm.... That might not have been a good idea.

However, I do agree with you and I do think it is rediculous they are targeting those that are helping build and drive the legacy. While there are about 100 more sites than the ones you listed, this "legacy" ford is refering to would not exists without the enthusiasts that created those sites. Without those that stived to produce and/or sell parts for the cars, the mustang would have gone the way of the dodo.

This is a time when ford is scraping the bottom of the barrel for money. This wasted money on laywers going after these sites that are promoting their vehicles makes no sense. None.

Unfortunately, there is probably nothing we can do about it directly. However, when sales do die out, and mustangs are rusting on the lots because there are new options such as the challenger and the craparo that may come out...Ford will beg us to come back. Unfortunately, they are going to burn a lot of bridges.

Mistakes:
1.) Pricing a mere mustang in the corvette price range (GT500 vert is looking to be just under 50k based on released prices I have read about and am trying to confirm)
2.) Allowing dealerships to take a mere mustang and tack on 10-20k markup putting its price over that of a corvette.
3.) Suing your loyal followers because they are proud of their mustang herritage and forcing them to halt their business.

With decisions like these, Ford may be going the way of the dodo in the next 5-10 years once the general releases a competitor for the mustang. Ford will not survive on the F150 alone...and we all know it is the mustang and F150 that keep that company alive.

Think about it ford. The legacy you talk about only exists because of the same enthusiasts you are suing. Not too smart. Most of the young crowd is falling itno the tuner market. All you have left are the gear heads of old and those that came up before tuners went big.

The only reason Mustang is such a big name and commonly used is because of sites and businesses.

Re: Ford Motor Company - Stop Digging Your Grave

Wow Ford. You are stupid.

I have only owned Mustangs my entire life. I had a 1997 Mustang, which unfortunately was wrecked, so I saved and saved for almost a year. I got jobs where my friends worked and had to work the same shifts as them just so I could get to work and they could give me a ride. I love Mustangs. They are (were??????) the only cars I would consider driving.

However, if this site, or any other Mustang site which serves only to promote the Ford interest, is sued, I promise you I will sell my car in a heartbeat. Huh, that's funny. Chevy had some adds that mentioned a heartbeat. Maybe I should check into their lineup.

I currently own a 1999 Mustang and just inherited a 1973 F-100 Ranger XLT. I will never sell the Ranger due to it's sentimental value, but the Mustang I could live without. Especially with all the other sports cars out on the road now.

Please rethink your decision Ford. It would be in your best interest.

Good to hear there is growing support for this. I think if Ford continues with this they will be incredibly shocked at the impact that they will received after they go after the first Mustang enthusiast site. It just is not a smart thing to do to piss off your main supporters.

without an aftermarket I dont think the mustang would still be around. Ford is just to stupid to see it... or they actually expect people to only buy ford racing products which is laughable.

werd. There are so many recent GM and Mopar converts that will leave
(or have already left) due to this idiocy. I think Ford is banking on the
political phenomenon that "people forget by the next election" but will
it work in this case??? Highly doubtful.

Yes it passes emissions...

I hear ya with the online petitions....Look what it did for Tommy Chong! Hell i love mustangs, but i guess that doesnt mean i have to love Ford. I dont buy new cars, and prolly never will, unless i win the lottery, then still prolly wouldnt. My newest car is a 92.....LOL

I wonder how far they will actually take this thing?

Hopefully it goes about as far as replacing the Mustang with the Probe did.
I weighed in on that one too... AGAINST

Re: Ford Motor Company - Stop Digging Your Grave

I too have been sending out the petition..........Not sure that ford will listen, but it doesn't hurt to let them know how absurd this is.

I have been doing some reading too, and i don't think they can come after website's for enthusiast's, but they can go after companie's using the name Mustang and making money off of that name.

When i get a little more time, i will post up some of the case law on this....

Didnt Ford take the name 'Mustang' from an old P52 bomber or somthing to that effect?

Kinda makes you think...?

The government should sue Ford then instead of trying to ban gay marriage. Cause we all know that is the most important thing going on right now that needs to be pushed to the front. :dunno:

P51 Fighter plane, not sure it was a fighter but it was P51.

That was a Military designation and probably not copyrighted.
Nor the horse breed, but all it takes is "being first" in most cases,
to copyright something then it is yours ad infinitum. (no pun intended)

Yes, probably the best fighter of dubya-dubya-dos. It could escort bombers all the way from England to Berlin. It was armed with six M2 .50cal machine guns in the wings.

Re: Ford Motor Company - Stop Digging Your Grave

This was taken for the Maryland Mustang Club message board:

Aloha one and all,

I see on Internet blogs, club e-mails, forums, etc; that Ford is out to stop us from using the word "Mustang."

First and foremost, I will say it is untrue!

We are a car club that promotes the Mustang in several ways, we preserve the heritage and if you look around at Mustang owners, we tend to be repeat customers. (In some peoples case, several times over!) There is no copy write infringement by MCA and in fact, MCA clubs are a great testimonial to Ford Motor Company.

In Conclusion:
Please do not believe the rumors that "Ford is out to get you!" or that we cant use the Mustang name. Again I state, it is not true!
Ford values the clubs so much they have a Mustang and Thunderbird Club center that operates just to keep us in touch. We matter to them also!
Phone: 1-800-576-PONY/1-800-TBIRD10 E-mail: mustangcenter@minacsusa.com
Put your mind at ease and enjoy the show season! (see below)
