The South...

Why to people up north, whom have never been down here, make fun of the south and the way they "think" we live. They assume we dont wear shoes, have no education and get together with our cousins and have children... wtf... its odd how they think we do things and yet they have NEVER been down here or have a REAL clue as to what its really like.

Discuss.

Re: The South...

Its ironic really, those that put down the south and make fun of us with out having a basis for proof are in fact showing how ignorent they are, not us.

they really piss me off.

I swear.. I'll only ever live up there if I absolutely have to, and there's no other choice.. I can't live somewhere where it's cold, and they have no clue what grits and sweet tea are.

Re: The South...

I assumed people from Alabama were decently racist... I did assume you wore shoes... But other than that and referring to all pop as Coke... which I totally disagree with, I didn't make too many assumptions. Plus, southern chicks with southern accents are hot... that's why I found me a girl that was born in Texas

I don't know what grits are... I know what sweet tea is, but have never had more than a sip of it... yuck. Also, people in Iowa are VERY nice. It does get pretty damn cold here... like I saw -15 last year a couple times. Also, we typically get above 100 frequently in the summer... so we get both ****ty ends of the stick.

Texas is far from the South. Trust me.

The accents Texas girls have almost aren't even accents. They sound like they're from Ohio or something.

Re: The South...

Iowa is known for a complete lack of any accent... I pick up very slight accents very very easily. Plus, one of my good friends was born in Alabama, and his sister had quite the southern accent.. it was pretty hot. Also, my gf now doesn't really have much of an accent, just carries the whole "soda water" thing... which I love teasing her about

Re: The South...

This seemed appropriate...

You're An EXTREME Redneck When.....

1. You let your 14-year-old daughter smoke at the dinner table in front of
her kids.

2. The Blue Book value of your truck goes up and down depending on how much
gas is in it.

3. You've been married three times and still have the same in-laws.

4. You think a woman who is "out of your league" bowls on a different night.

5. You wonder how service stations keep their rest-rooms so clean.

6. Someone in your family died right after saying, "Hey, guys, watch this."

7. You think Dom Perignon is a Mafia leader.

8. Your wife's hairdo was once ruined by a ceiling fan.

9. Your junior prom offered day care.

10. You think the last words of the "Star-Spangled Banner" are
"Gentlemen, start your engines."

11. You lit a match in the bathroom and your house exploded right off its
wheels.

12. The Halloween Pumpkin on your porch has more teeth than your spouse.

13. You have to go outside to get something from the fridge.

14. One of your kids was born on a pool table.

15. You need one more hole punched in your card to get a freebie at the
House of Tattoos.

16. You can't get married to your sweetheart because there's a law against
it.

17. You think loading the dishwasher means getting your wife drunk.

And Finally:

An East Tennessee couple, both real-live rednecks, had 9 children. They went
to the doctor to see about getting the husband "fixed". The doctor asked
them why, after nine children would they choose to do this. The husband
replied that they had read in a recent article that one out of every ten
children being born in North America was Mexican and they didn't want a
Mexican baby because neither of them could speak Spanish.

Re: The South...

Lets be real about the negative stereotypes of the south. Why are they Hummm Lets see. After the War of Nothern Aggression the Federal Government plunged the south in 40 years of depression. They provided ZERO money for rebuilding of what they burned down, Allowed carpet baggers to come in and claim people's lands and generally beat down the South preventing business in the north to build factories in the south. When Grant became President he punished the south. The South had to pick up it's own heals and get going and by the 20's we were thriving again in the big cities but the farm belt was still hurting. Fast forward to today. The SouthEast is the fastest growing area in the Country. Car factories are coming here as well as the foreign companies. Now we enjoy a higher standard and lower taxes than any Northern City that are slowly decaying. Every major Aerospace and high tech company other than Boeing has most if not all of the organization in the southern states. We supply the oil and most of the food for the nation, We have Disney world the North has New Jersey MUHAHAHHAHHAHAA

I am DAMN BLESSED TO HAVE BEEN BORN IN THE SOUTH AND CONTINUE TO LIVE IN THE SOUTH AND WILL NEVER MOVE ACROSS THE MASON/DIXON LINE UNLESS HELL FREEZES OVER BY GOD!!!!

I am from the north. But I was raised in the South. I moved back to MI as most of you know, and I swear, I never fit in. People just aren't cool like they are here. I am never leaving the south again.

Re: The South...

I moved here from Wahington state. It sucked.

When we told people we were moving here, they asked the following questions:

1. Do they even have hospitals there?

2. Don't they still walk around bare foot?

3. Ugh! they still live in tar paper shacks there. You'll hate it.

4. They live on their front porches. (ok maybe that one is true.)

5. They still have slaves there don't they?

6. Thye just got electricity and dont have TV yet.

These were seriously posed questions and statements.

Re: The South...

First off Corey, you can't make the food claim... I think Iowa has the south beat.. as the state of Iowa makes more food than all of CHINA. We have 25 million hogs in Iowa... many more than we have people... and our entire state is covered in corn and soybeans. Iowa grows enough corn to feed the entire US, make ethanol... AND still have enough left for exports.

also, I'm debating living in the south... probably Georgia.

Re: The South...

You make corn and soybeans. We make barbecue (pork... AKA... real barbecue), fried catfish, and the best damn potato chips you'll ever eat (Golden Flake FTW, I miss them ****ers already). Not to mention sweet tea, fried okra and other various fried things that no one else would think to fry.

Really now, which would you rather have?

I personally cannot wait to get back to the South. And no people... Texas is not the South.

Re: The South...

maybe you missed my comment about the 25 million hogs... trust me, we know pork.

also, we have a local chips company that makes DAMN good chips. I blame them for about 20 pounds I currently need to loose.

I don't drink sweet tea... and I don't eat okra... so, not much of a loss there.

also, I do want to move to the south eventually... I'm tired of these damn winters.
