Expensive
Thirsty
Fit and Finish is not up to european standards
How many people really need a truck who have them
American and Japanese Cars have very small brakes compared to European cars.
Typically trucks dont handle well compared to cars
He was telling the truth about truck sales. The rest of world does not by trucks like we do

Plus it sounded to me like he was using a thing called sarcasm to make fun of snotty Britts just as much as he was the Americans.

Haha, I rather enjoyed it. I thought it was a very funny, yet brutally honest review frome a british pov. They really don't need trucks like that over there.

Yeah, but he was using the lightning like it was a regular every day f150 instead of a special edition. Not to mention he tried to take it offroading wtf lol.

They didn't even give the 05 mustang gt that much ****. I'm not saying the lightning is the nicest thing around, but some of what he said was just a bit much if you ask me.

Re: I have a new hatred for the show "Top Gear"

If you read some of the comments from YouTube when people were *****ing about Ford not making good vehicles:

Lest you forget that Aston Martin is owned by Ford, The Noble M400 is powered by a twin turbocharged Ford Duratec V6 and the McLaren F1 is driven by a BMW V12. I would hardly call any of the companies you listed overwhelmingly 'British.'

Expensive true dat
Thirsty who cares, its a truck
Fit and Finish is not up to european standards - not everyone in america wants a beamer
How many people really need a truck who have them - because its not possible to pull your boat uphill with a benz
American and Japanese Cars have very small brakes compared to European cars. - we dont have the autobahn and rarely get over 70 on the freeway
Typicall trucks dont handle well compared to cars - duh, its a truck
He was telling the truth about truck sales. The rest of world does not by trucks like we do - the rest of the world doesnt need to haul things like we do. cmon, you dont see europeans or japs pulling a boat or jet-skis to the lake do you? or puling up a ton of bricks for the yard?

But he did like the power

Dude Fit and Finish on a 30,000 plus truck should be excellent!!!
Dude even American are not buying big trucks because they are thirsty. Been reading the news????
Most people with Lightnings dont pull crap either do most pick up owners!!!
I guess you dont ride up and down the mountians much. Puny American and japanese brakes fade bad and make rides in the mountains interesting. Why else do so many Mustang owners upgrade their brakes????.

And I had a neighbor who pulled a 18ft ski boat with his v6 conv. That was funny to watch him pulling that thing out of the water. True, most ppl never use trucks as a truck, but around here, alot do. My work trucks have hauled more than most ppl with big diesels have ever thought about hauling, and I have an isuzu pup and a 2wd f150.

ever sat in a $60k porsche? makes a camaro interior feel like a benz. besides, if interior is all you have to knock on about a truck, youre more than likely a ***** that shouldnt drive a truck anyways. trucks are for real men who dont give a **** about all the amenities or ride quality their wifes beamer has.

if that statement is true, its likely cause the trucks/suv we have now are still in great working condition. then again, everyone i know has either a 05 or newer gm/ford suv or truck.

a lightning wasnt made to pull stuff, its made to satisfy those who wanted a truck but hate the fact most are slow.

i ride up and down the mountains once a month. brakes on both our tahoe's are more than sufficient, especially when you have a trailer with brakes as well. and until im making 120+mph passes at the track and need to slow down in 1/16 of a mile, i dont see any reason the mustangs brakes need to be upgraded. most people just do it for that "bling" factor of knowing their rims look even better when theres 1000$ brembo's behind them.

Really My good friends Tahoe has brakes put on almost every year. I have a friend who has all kind of problems with his full size GMC van with warping rotors and pads wearing out. Hell the stock single piston rotors on 94-98 suck ***.

*****'s drive truck and SUV's all the time

I pretty much don't like trucks except for the Lightning. I would still get it if I had my decision on trucks. Gimmie that engine

Re: I have a new hatred for the show "Top Gear"

Okay when I worked at my local ford I drove lightnings around all the time. I NEVER saw anything wrong with the fit and finish. Also a fast truck is just another option for someone who doesn't want to drive something that everyone has aka mustang, camaro. It just gives you something different to work with. Not to mention that a lightning is a heck of a lot more comfortable then a mustang and how can you beat having 380hp+ at your dispossal.

Not to mention if you can afford a lightning gas mileage isn't usally a concern. If it is then you dont even need to think about owning one.

If you are used to ford's fit and finish then you dont know what to look for. If you drive a 1 million dollar car it had better be perfect in every way.. they are comparing a car that costs over twice as much to fords at times....

the z06 link mark posted where they make fun of th z06's fit and finish and some of the areas it has issues with... WTF it costs less than half of the ferrari they were comparing it to.... its not a ferrari... and if it costs what that sucker did you better bet it would have a much better fit and finish...

I agree with what you are saying about cost. But when you think about cost of a lightning. Would you not think the fit and finish should be better than a standard F-150???

Re: I have a new hatred for the show "Top Gear"

It is a F-150 with a drive train and some exterior upgrades for the most part, they put a set of seats in it and gauges... thats it. Other than that its an F-150~ ford wouldnt spend the money needed to redesign the little details and redesign the interior.... the cost they would have to pass on to the consumer would be far to much. Its just like the cobra, other than seats, gauges, petal covers, and steering wheel logo its a stock mustang interior just like the base and GT models.

That is the reason American cars dont sell well in Europe. We rebadge and make minor changes but ask for a lot more money for the upgrades but the standard cars in Europe have a much better fit and finish with good stuff already inn the cars.

How does those dollar figures translate though, what do those very nice quality fit and finish cars cost?

The exchange rate currently puts $1.819 = 1 British Pound.

Re: I have a new hatred for the show "Top Gear"

This is the first time that I've seen this video, and I must say these people totally miss the point of what a full size truck, and a Lightning are suppose to be. They seem really snobby saying that the British are more Sophisticated than Americans, and made some really stupid, exaggerated points against the truck.

Wow back from the dead eh?

I can say though I can understand why they'd be upset with the interior if you are spending so much money on it. I mean, crap, if I was spending so much I'd expect more.

Ya know? Sorta like the Ford Shelby GT500, the interior is just like a leather interior with new emblems of a GT Mustang. Still with the plastic dash and everything, it just feels like "Wow I spent all this money and.. this is what I get for it"

I am seeing new improvements with the interior though like a leather stitched front top dash, it was in a BOSS Mustang that's over at our local dealership. It's actually pretty nice.

American and Japanese Cars have very small brakes compared to European cars. we specialize in going, not stopping.

He was telling the truth about truck sales. The rest of world does not by trucks like we do though ford still sells every truck and suv on the lot within a week from its arrival. the market will catch back up soon enough, just a hiccup because of world affairs and gas prices.

But he did like the power its amazing what american muscle does to you when youre used to torqueless euro-trash

Yeah but I thing the interior thing was over dramatized by them. First off it's a F-150 so the interior is not going to have all the nice materials because their made more for working than anything, at least a regular F-150 is. Also I have been in many F-150's, and have never seen one where the cup holder, cigarette light/power outlet cover didn't sit flush with the dash. I think the thing is, is that the truck wasn't built for them, and they have to spend and lot more money than us to get it, kind of like we do for a Skyline.

The brakes aren't that small, they use Super Duty brakes on the front, and I believe Expedition brakes on the rear

Re: I have a new hatred for the show "Top Gear"

well in europe they need big brakes for their 5000lb econo-landbarges they like to call Mercedes and Bimmer. they immediately think a truck needs massive brakes when it doesnt even weigh in as heavy as those listed above, but the misconception is that it does.

my response to brits would be "we can stop just fine. we just choose not to."

My response to the brits is "We got flat lands, hardly any hills and mountains. It's an American car, so it fits what America has. We didn't build this thing and hope to God it would one day be driven in Merry Ol Mary Poppins England"
