OMG Americans are not buying French Wine MUHAHAHHA

This is great what the article does not say that American's traveling to France is also down. I believe this can be attributed to a backlash against anything french. Some Americans dont care for the two faced, back stabbing, Pansy *** frogs.

LONDON - There’s a glut in Europe -- a wine glut. There’s just too much of it. So, the Europeans find themselves gulping instead of sipping.

The French and their beloved wines. Culled from the fruit of the rich Gallic soil for generations, a love affair shared the world over. But among the idyllic vineyards of France there is a nightmare becoming reality – not that the weather might produce a poor vintage, but because there is too much wine.

For decades the European Union has encouraged the French to plant more vineyards by giving them subsidies. Now it’s telling vintners to tear them up.

The problem facing European wine producers is that aggressive marketing by some new world producers like Australia, as well as improved production techniques in others like North America, have seen their sales increase by as much as 20 times. In the same period, exports from France have gone down 15 percent, but it still produces the same amount of wine.

“It’s a big, big problem because we don’t know how to market ourselves globally, whereas America can do so brilliantly well,” said Gluck.

Thirty years ago the French would never have believed the vineyards of the U.S., Chile or New Zealand could have threatened them. Now, they are learning that only root and branch reform of their own wine industry will enable it to survive.

Aristocrat and Grey Goose should not even be mentioned in the same post. Dammit! See! Now I did it too, and it's all your fault!

If the Goose is too expensive, buy some Ketel One or Absolut. Maybe even Smirnoff, just anything but Aristorcrat. Dammit! Did it again.

Ciroc is also the ****. It tastes better than Grey Goose, but it isn't quite as smooth. It's made from grapes instead of grain, which is why it tastes better.

Yes but where do you store it. The problem is as the glut continues the price of wine will go down to the point of being worthless and cost more to store than just dump in a ditch.

It actually depends on what type of wine it is. You can age red wine perfectly, but with white wine you can maybe age it for like...3 or 4 years before it turns to vinegar. It is true that North America, Australia, etc.. are growing better grapes and making better wines. I would highly recommend getting a dessert wine from Australia, they are just so damn good. Sweet, bubbly, and just taste so great. Had to take a wine class during culinary school

I know what you mean, for some reason I could only really taste the yeast in the wines.

Re: OMG Americans are not buying French Wine MUHAHAHHA

dude gallo wine=teh win. especially since i knew a couple of their kids(godamn rich bastards, new mercedes or beamer every week), and live by a few of their wineries, and their wine cellars are almost under my house(100 yards to the north to be exact and 20 feet under).

but i dont really like wine. its too sweet and light. i might sip from one of my families to see if its any good, but nothings hit me yet.

then again i drink DiSaronno on the rocks like a fiend. though thats italian, so yet again F U Frenchie. the only good thing that came from you is Fries and Dips.

Home-made wine is the ****. I had some apple not too long ago that was awesome. It tasted good, but at the same time, it would put you under the table pretty damn quick. What more could you ask for?

Re: OMG Americans are not buying French Wine MUHAHAHHA

Wine isnt better just because its old... the reason people store wine is because they'll get a good year where the grapes are really good and it tends to make the wine better. Thats why theres old old bottles places, because people buy a crapload of the good stuff and save it.

I have never really liked French wine. I really use to drink almost all German and Italian wines and then American Wines came on strong and now I drink mostly American Robert Modavi private selections

There is cheap whine which tends to either be to dry, to fruity or bitter. I like a semi fruity wine that is not dry or bitter. I personally dont like to drink anything that makes me thirsty.
