Shops in this town can kiss my ***

I swear, I'm sick of every single car repair place in this town. The mom and pops, the big chains, the local chains, all of them. I had one place tell me they could mount/balance my new wheels for 15 a piece. I drop the wheels/tires off after borrowing a friend's truck and taking off work for the afternoon. I go back like an hour later and the tire guy is working on a lawnmower and my wheels and tires are sitting exactly where I left them. He told me they decided not to do them because they didn't want to buy me new wheels. Fine, whatever, give me a freaking call next time so I don't waste an hour of my time waiting on you douchbags. I went by 3 other shops and none of them would even touch my wheels, moreless try to see if they're machine will do them. They're freaking 18 inch rims, I've seen 50 cars in this town with 22's and they get the freaking things done somewhere. I ended up driving across town and going to the expensive place and paying 107 dollars for mounting and balancing. By that point I didn't care, just wanted it done.

Now this morning, I get up to the alignment place at 6:45 and sit there until about 7:45 till they decide to tell me my car won't go on the alignment machine and my front bumper is in the way of the laser, therefore they can align my car if I pull off the front bumper. I get my car, drive across town to another place, same problem, gotta pull the front bumper off. There has got to be some freaking way to align my car without pulling this damn bumper off, but not around here, so I guess sometime next week I'm pulling the bumper off, I can't afford 2 tires if my alignment isn't right on, so there goes another afternoon of being screwed around by shops here. I swear to god, is there not a shop somewhere that will work on modified cars without *****ing and moaning every 5 seconds because my car isn't factory.

Re: Shops in this town can kiss my ***

thats weird about the alignment... When I got my rims I looked for a place that sells chrome "dubs" if you will... a really ghetto shop in the sense that all the negro folk hang out there and talk about the sweet wheels. I figured if theres someone thats gonna take care of the wheels, its dudes that work with chrome all day.

Do you even need an alignment? New rims doesnt mean you need an alignment. I always have my alignments done at firestone, they've always gotten it on the machine with how low my car is, and have never had a problem aligning it. :dunno:

good luck mang

if you live where there are potholes or you are a curb rasher as most of you are you need a alignment every 18 monts or so. I do it every 2 years.

Re: Shops in this town can kiss my ***

I do it every 6 months, just because I have unlimited aligment deal from firestone... so I dont mind taking it just to make sure. Last time I went in, my alignment was still perfect from the first alignment Id had since installing my c/c plates. Those MM plates are just amazing

Re: Shops in this town can kiss my ***

when I installed my cc plates they were spot on (dont know how) all they had to do was adjust the tire rods lol. I would align the car every year at least unless you dont mind going though tires faster... if you can look at the tires you can tell though... if they are wearing bad get em checked else just drive.

I do alignments for a living. They are right as far as the laser beam goes. If the car is too low for the laser to get a reading then the machine is useless. If the bumper interfere's with that then you have no choice but to remove the bumper.

Re: Shops in this town can kiss my ***

only time i get an alignment is if it pulls to one side, or theres unusual wear on the tires indicative of bad alignment.

****ing newfangled alignment machine. in shop class we had one that had these tripod things with levels that attached to the rim, and could span a 26" rim with ease. then you plugged them into the computer and it extrapolated all 4 distance from eachother and told you what had to be done.

Re: Shops in this town can kiss my ***

That's why I'm getting one. My passenger front is wearing the outside edge pretty bad, or was on my old wheels at least. The driver wears a touch. I never got an alignment after lowering or c/c plates lol.

Re: Shops in this town can kiss my ***

I drove 100 miles today, no visible wear yet. I'm gonna pull the bumper off this week and get it done before my 700 mile stint to come this weekend lol. Just annoying, but while I'm at it I can fix one of the mounting points that got messed up by an armadillo at 80 and fix the bumper sag with a little support system. Then install my tranny cooler while I'm under there.

Re: Shops in this town can kiss my ***

It took me awhile to find someone to align my rim because they don't have an outer lip to hook the machine to. Last time I got my wheels aligned I got knew tire on my car, and thought my front wheels were 18 by 9 inches like the later Roush rims. I also assumed thought the previous owner just put smaller tires (245's) on the front, so I ordered 265's, but the front wheels turned out to be 18 by 8inches, and the tires didn't want to fit. After aplogising to the tire shop people for having them order the wrong tire size (I was there for almost 7 hours) we decided to put the old tires back on, and order some 245's. About 2 mins latter they came back and told me that the tires had just miraculacly went on. Anyway when they went to aligned my car, it was already good so they didn't change it, but my old tires (the 245's) would only wear on the very inside tread and the rest of the tire would be perfect, after put on the 265's the tires are wearing evenly. The tires are the same except for the size. The first time I had my tires change I had them go with the size that was alread on the car (245) and those tire lasted all of maybe 6000 miles, the knew tires have over 8000 and still have plenty of life left on them. I'm thinking I'll keep using 265's, but hate to go through the hassel of getting them installed again.

Re: Shops in this town can kiss my ***

Well I'm running 275's on 18x9's, the machine barely fits on the lip, and I make them put felt between the machine and the lip lol. I think that shop hates me now. But, like I say, this is an excuse to get a few things done I've been putting off. Just annoying. Makes me wanna drill a hole in those spots through my bumper on both sides just for alignments lol. I cannot afford another set of these tires anytime soon, so these better last. This is now my 4th set of tires on the car, 80k miles, not too bad I guess lol. I still have enough left on my old ones for a few autox or drag strip visits, then I have some tires I bought for 20 bucks to go on them. I'm not competitive enough to buy sticky stuff or use my expensive tires, I just do it for fun lol.

Re: Shops in this town can kiss my ***

The center caps on my front wheels were missing when I bought my car. I'm pretty sure when they align my car use a machine that aligns it from the center of the hubs, from my understanding this is the old way to align wheels, but I'm not sure about that. I assume this is how my center cap went missing.

Yeah, I would definitly make them replace my center caps if they loose them, but they weren't on the car when I bought it. The dealership I bought the car from bought me some Roush center caps, but they were made for a different style wheel. I didn't complain about this to them though because I didn't ask them to do that. One of these days I'll get around to ordering me some Knew ones.
