UPDATED: Guess My Numbers

Ok, the dyno is finally registering all the right numbers. All the wires are now working. And I did a quick test run to make sure things would register. So I say, guess my final numbers based on the following data. The winner gets a cookie.

Old Numbers:
Mods: 2.76" pulley, Amazon Racing CAI, Borla Stinger Catback, predator tune running 11.8-12.1 through the entire rpm band, rear wheels sitting at 32 PSI. Freshly installed NGK TR6 Irridium spark plugs gapped at 32 or 36 (I don't remember)
Conditions: 99.6* with 38% humidity
Numbers: 434 hp / 457 tq SAE

Test Pull Numbers:
Mods: 2.76" pulley, Amazon Racing CAI, Borla Stinger Catback, UPR Off Road X Pipe, SCT tune running pig rich at 10.7-11.1 through the entire rpm band, rear wheels sitting at 26 PSI instead of the proper 32. Freshly installed NGK TR6 regular spark plugs gapped at 32 or 36 (I don't remember where we are putting them), Possibly an SCT2800 Big *** Air Meter since I am sitting at 4.9+ volts above 5k rpms
Conditions: 105* with 37% humidity
Numbers: 420 hp / 440 tq SAE

The final dialing in of my tune should be this weekend to get my A/F up around 11.5ish or so across the entire RPM Range. The pulls will be done either early AM or evening to avoid the crushing 105* temps again. We are wanting to pull when it dips into the 80s. The rear tires will also be temporarily inflated to the proper 32 PSI for the pulls.

So...any best guesses?

My hope is for 460s-470s hp and 470q-480s tq, but I think the O/R X will prevent that due to a loss of back pressure.

In all seriousness... I say 442/463.

Put your tire pressure back up. Less rolling resistance means more horsepower.

As for a guess...

Actually, stock eatons have been known to take a power hit for a lack of back pressure...because the lack of pressure decreases the amount of boost.

Yeah, I can't run 32 psi on the street for a lack of traction. Yesterdays run was just a test so we weren't worried about it. Tomorrow when it goes up it will get the full 32 psi treatment.

And you are only figuring 8 hp increase over the old numbers by having a new tune and xpipe? Hmm...maybe my hopes are set a bit high.

The main reason I don't think it will be all that much higher is that you are going with a little less agressive tune. You said it was between 11.8 and 12.1 and that you're aiming this time for around 11.5 across the board. I think you're definitely making the right move, but it may cost you a couple of horsepower. I'd say the X-pipe is worth around 15, but the more conservative tune will cost around half of that or a little more back...

Hopefully you'll prove me wrong and put down 470 though..

I hope so too....odds are that if I don't hit 460-470 and we have room to get aggressive on it I will push it. I want 460+ unported before I go whipple/Kenne Bell.

Re: Guess My Numbers

well, it looks like a couple of you were pretty close. Finally managed to get on the dyno today and get the tune dialed in. We could probably tweak a couple of spots in the map and maybe add some spark (currently 21* @ 6k and 17* @ 3500), but it is about as close as we need to get it while I wait for the KB.

Ok, now, on with the numbers.

Conditions:
Temp: 85*
Humidity: 65%
Pressure: 30.x

Changes over the quick test tune posted in the first post (420 hp/ 440 tq):
Tires: 40 psi
Tune Tweaks: More spark, more fuel in a couple of maps and less up top
Old A/F: 11.3-11.5
New A/F: 11.9-12.2

New Numbers: 452 rwhp/471 rwtq

I am pretty happy with it especially being unported and running on year old plugs that have been running pretty rich for about 3-4 months so I know they are probably pretty fouled especially after running bad shell gas for a few months as well. Going to change them and see if the seat of the pants dyno feels any better....but even if it doesn't, the current SOTP dyno says the changes were very good.

I will post the graph later when he sends me the run files.

Ok, carry on now.

Here is the graph...old vs new. Very happy with where I am sitting....can't wait to see if new plugs make things feel any peppier.

Not totally, but I am pretty active at StangHi Peformance here in town where I did their website and help him out in the shop all the time. So, I guess I kind of work there...it is a back scratching thing...I get cool discounts/hand outs at times. Saved $350 last night alone with the dyno tune session.

I don't know the exact number because I don't have the Ray Hilton boost overlay or an aftermarket guage, so I can only speculate. With the 2.76 pulley, I should be seeing a peak boost of about 15 psi which drops off to about 12 psi as you climb above 5000-5500 rpms. In the winter, I should be seeing 16-17 psi depending on the temps...

On a side note, there is some more power left on the table. My MAF was pegged above 6k. I will be getting the SCT BA2800 MAF in the near future so we should be able to increase the peak hp a bit because it was pulling up until the MAF pegged. On the loaded runs we did, you can see exactly when it pegged. The A/F immediately went to 11.5 from 12.0 and the hp started dropping. The graph I posted was an un-loaded pull (only 2 hp difference between the pulls )

I am going to run this tune for a while until I decide how long it will be until I can get the 2.6 KB and stroke the engine.

I am going to take the engine out and send it to VT Engines in Syracuse NY to get the following done:

Quote:

As for the reason for KB over Whipple...it was partly because of the way the blew off a guy from another forum who was going to use their 3.3L unit to break the old land speed record of 203 mph for factory stock something or other class. They promised him the adapter plate for months until he couldn't wait any longer. He even offered to pay any overtime their employees needed to work out of his own pocket. They still blew him off even though they promised it. KB overnighted the new 2.6L unit they just released to him and bent over backwards to help him get up and running. He broke the record by the way with a 2 run average of 205+ mph in his 03 cobra with roughly the same mods I wanna do and a conservative 11.7 A/F tune.

The other reason is because it is a 2.6L and not 2.3L like the whipple. It is able to produce the same HP levels as the Whipple at an average of 3-4 less PSI of boost. So, 17 psi on the new KB is about 20-21 on the whipple. As everyone knows, less PSI = cooler IAT2 temps = more power. So, it is much more efficient and has more room to go before it is maxed out @ 28 psi.

Plus, the new design of the case looks better than the old 2.2L...simular, but better. That was my main reason for initialy wanting a whipple. now that it looks good, I will get the KB.
