Evo Test Drive

so out of sheer boredom, me and my buddy went looking at car lots. checked out the Saturn Sky, which is a very nice sharp looking car for the price, reminds me of a mini-vette, in a way the miata almost looks like a mini viper.

test drove a 06 Evo RS. didnt like it at all. first off, ive never been in one, let alone drive one. felt small, like smaller than my GST Spyder felt, the wheel was small and close, the shifter was short with a skinny knob and the throws were effortless, but tranny still felt notchy(like a dsm). Soft pedal, i hate it when the gas pedal is too soft, i like a pedal you can rest your foot on and it doesnt fall to the floor.

performance wise, it was a 7/10. nimble as hell, like my buddy's grandmas miata. straightline, wasnt too impressed, it didnt really feel fast at all, i went from a 2nd gear roll at 20 up to end of 3rd cause i didnt want to scare the salesman, and i think it would have gotten eaten by my buddy's srt4 when it was stock. i know their potential, but i wouldve thought they were faster off the bat, unless, like the sales manager said, they shine more on the freeway, which i thought was blasphemy cause awd usually sucks more power the faster you go(awd drag), but maybe he was on to something. when i dropped it off and told them how i felt, they were like "WTF, are you Human?" dont get me wrong, its a nice car, just aint me.

didnt find any cobras, ford dealership tried their hardest to get me in a 05 GT. lol please. "but its faster than your 02!", "yeah but it looks like my ass and almost weighs more!"

I really like the looks of the Solstice's and the Sky's. Haven't seen a Sky in person, though.

AWD isn't worth all the added complexity, to me. Wrap an extra couple of wheels in drag radial (or wrinklewallls...) and you'll have just as much traction as the AWD guys.

Damn, I figured you would like the car more. I've never drive one but I love the way they feel while sitting in it, the seats are bad ass, and I thought the steering wheel and shifter felt really good, but like I said I've never driven one just set in one, and started it up. I would love to test drive one, but haven't seen a used one at any dealerships.

my buddy with the white evo told me he raced an 05 Mustang GT the other day. They both started from a red light, my friend launched at 5k and was looking down at his RPM's, when he looked up at his rear mirror and the mustang was 2 car lengths behind still smoking his rear wheels. But the car caught up slowly, but with each shift of the evo he was getting slightly further. He let off when the boys in blue came strolling down the opposite side of the street.

If the stang had some good tires on the back of it (or maybe a different driver...), this probably would have been an entirely different contest. Some people don't realize that it's a drag race, not a burnout contest.

Agreed. The 05 owner obviously can't drive for ****. The 05+ actually hook extremely well compared to the old cars. The only time my tires spin is when I'm doing it on purpose, which I never do. You can just totally lay into it in first, and as long as you didn't rev and dump the clutch, it just takes off.
