Might be worth calling your renters/homeowners insurance provider and ask if they consider phones computers and what a computer rider would cost. I think my dad said that the insurance company considers their phones computers because they can access the internet.

Hopefully now I can keep an electronic device for more than 3 months.

Also, my parents were telling me that their insurance company considers smartphones computers, so they added a rider to their insurance to cover their computers (which covers my mom and sister's blackberries and my dad's droid). It costs about $5 per phone per year with a $50 deductible. Saves $5/month/phone on their Verizon bill.
My droid is pretty rugged. I have dropped it a few times, takes a dent and keeps on ticking.

The Droid still couldn't be dropped several feet or submerged in water or dropped from my truck then slid across the pavement Not sure if the those Casio phones could stand to being run over by a car. But, I've done all of these things to my phones. I am a little rough on them, lol.

Depends on the article u read but Sprints CEO has said that him and Verizon decided to drop the Nexus and IMO it is just behind its time as the EvO comes to Sprint and Incredible to Verizon, both are superior to the Nexus

Re: Bye Bye Iphone

Here was the article I was referring to.
http://androidheadlines.com/2010/05/...ne-google.html
Smartphones are coming out every month now it seems. IMO it seems that some companies (i.e., Verizon) would never drop a new Android smart phone simply because it's helping compete against the iPhone. Up until the N1 no other phone had that same feel as the iPhone (again IMO) but Google found a market they couldn't handle and are now shipping the N1 to stores.

Not only are there better phones coming out but I also think that a big part will be Android 2.2/Froyo. Apparently a benchmark test showed a Nexus One with Android 2.2 clocking at 37.593 MFLOPS. My Motorola Droid (Stock 2.1) clocked at 2.124 and the Droid Incredible (Stock 2.1) clocked at 7.012 MFLOPS.

I need one that can be dropped 10-100 feet off a roof and survive. Also water/dust/dirt proof a plus. One that doesnt scatch easy would be great. What do you guys suggest?

That works, unless you break the phone within the first few months.

Re: Bye Bye Iphone

I am getting a new phone for work. Motorola Droid or HTC Incredible? Incredible is slightly thinner, better camera, more memory, and faster. It also has a shorter battery life and no keyboard. I think since I'll be using the thing for work, it would be important to have a keyboard.

I love my droid and I love having the keyboard. And the batter life is pretty good, especially if you know what you are doing.

I hate keyboards. I don't like bulky phones. I love my Incredible so go for it.

Looking at the specs again, there is no discernible difference in either phones size. Incredible is .07" taller, .06" narrower, and only .07" thinner.

It weighs more. Its like a tank compared to the Incredible. I think the screen is a lot better than the Droids too

I hear that. I fall under the area of what you don't know won't hurt you. I love my iPhone and don't want to play with any of the other phones for that reason. Kind of stupid but that's just me.

What about people beating themselves up and then "THROWING" themselves out of windows? Or an Apple employee placing a prototype on a bar where a journalist could pick it up. Apple loves free publicity, even if it means innocent people being put in jail or killed. Any company that uses those tactics should be avoided. If their willing to go that far imagine what kind of spy apps are probably in your Iphone.

and if they did have a spy app. on your phone. What would they find that would just destroy your life?

I'd rather live a little and not worry about the small stuff all my life.

They already have software for phones that can record audio and video while you dont know about it. What they find isnt the point its the fact that people even do it.

Re: Bye Bye Iphone

Going to get my phone tomorrow, decided to get a Droid. I hate typing on the on-screen keyboard 100% of the time, they just dropped the price $50, and Incredibles seem to be backordered.

What are some of the "must have" apps? My dad has a live MLB score app and I running log app that records your path, speed, time, etc that I will definitely be downloading. I also need to be able to view .doc, .ppt, .xls, and .pdf files.

Also, can I sync Outlook on my laptop (contacts, calender) with my phone like I could with a Blackberry or Windows Mobile? I guess I have some reading to do, but the net seems to be flooded with so much crap about Android phones, its hard to sift through all the BS to get the info I am looking for.

I don't know about the Android apps. The way I used to sync outlook was with google mail and calendar on the iPhone. I said used to because I now do everything through google. The only reason I still used outlook was for the calendar. I need the calendar to remember all I need to do at work and remind me of things. I sync my iPhone contacts, calendar, and mail with google. Google has a desktop app to sync the outlook calendar.

Re: Bye Bye Iphone

Must have apps, you say... For me that's hard to say because there are so many great apps out there.

LogMeIn is nice since you can control your desktop right from your phone, anywhere. WaveSecure or LookOut to back up SMS, pictures, etc. If you go out a lot for eating or other social activities apps like Urban Spoon, Aloqua, Where, Yelp, and Gowalla (cool concept but very new idea). I also have a few guitar tuners and metranomes and scale libraries for reference (also a power tab editor).

There's also The Weather Channel app and widget.

I also downloaded NYC subway maps, some news feeds. Another must have is Astro or Android 2.2 Froyo System Info (by Google) or Android System Info (by Electric Sheep). The latter two gives an in depth overview of the system and how it's running. The first two allow file editing and system exploration.

There's also a bubble level and metal detector app.

Most of the apps that come stock are what you need.

Adobe now has an app for .pdf (they also have a photoshop app btw). From stock you can see .pdfs but the stock viewer isn't that great. I've also been able to view .xlsx files, and I'm sure I've opened up .docx, and almost as certain for .pptx. I've never tried to edit or create them on the phone hoewever. Lately I will note some of these files are not opening. I take it to there being too much internal memory being used from other apps.

Because all my contacts and calender are Google based I do not know the syncing process with Outlook. I've heard there are some problems but that was months ago. I think the syncing should have improved (at least they attempted to). I'm able to get emails coming in but I can not send emails or get the calender to display correctly. I think this has to do with more so the work server then the phone and mostly the fact I do not have the correct servers and such, etc.
