And so it begins...

I am now officially the owner of three Mustangs.

My dad found a four-banger coupe for $550. I'm not really even sure on the year model, somewhere between 87 and 93. From what he said it sounds like the perfect project car. The body is straight as an arrow. He hasn't even found a dent in it yet. The bumpers and side mouldings don't sag. The interior panels are all in pretty good shape. The transmission is gone, which is why I got it so cheap.

I'm planning on putting the driveline from the '90 in it, with a couple of upgrades. I'll probably go ahead and bore the bottom end out to a 306 and put new pistons, rods and bearings in it. The stock crank will stay though. I'm also gonna rebuild the heads, get a custom FTI cam, put some new 1.6 roller rockers on it and have the intake ports matched. I'll probably go ahead and try to get a Viper-spec T56 while I'm at it. The suspension is gonna be the Maximum Motorsports Maximum Grip box (coil-overs all around, panhard, torque-arm, tubular k-member, etc).

Everything on the car is gonna be either black, chrome or polished. The first thing that's gonna be done to it is to rip everything off the car (entire interior, motor, tranny, rear-end, all the glass...) and have it painted. It's gonna be a pretty quick little car, but my main objective is to make it nice. I think I can make it better in every way possible than my 06 for less than I paid for it. That's the goal.

It's probably gonna be a couple year project... but I'm just glad I finally found a good starting point. I'll try to get him to take some pictures of it soon and as the project goes along...

EDIT: Also, after I get done with that... work is gonna start on the '90. I'm thinkin' 408...

nice, you are fur filling your alabamian prophicies nicely. Its a great day when 1/3 of your cars parked at your house do not run and they are all the same type of car. You should feel proud.

Well, I finally got some pics. As you can see, despite the ****tyness (there's another word to add to your filters Brent ) of the paint, the body is pretty damn straight. I think it's gonna turn out rather nice.

Definitely.

And I'm almost done paying back the cash I had to borrow from my parents to move out here and get the '06. After that... it's on.

The bad part is... I still haven't even seen the car. Much less work on it.

But I'll finally get to see it not this weekend, but next. We're gonna work on re-routing all the wires in the engine bay through the fenders. We're also gonna weld up all the little holes in the fenders left behind so they'll be nice and smooth.

Have fun with that, and make sure to step up a size or two on the wires to make up for the added length, I learned that the hard way, lol......

Re: And so it begins...

Well, we got a lot of work done yesterday. And more to be done tomorrow.

The entire front suspension is out. We were able to drop the K-member, A-arms, spindles, springs, front brakes, and struts all in one fell swoop. Just had to pop the struts loose, remove the front sway bar, disconnect the flex brake lines, and pop off eight little bolts. Ok... maybe they weren't so little, but anyway...

The rear suspension will be gone tomorrow, if I don't get bored tonight. It should take all of 30 minutes to get rid of. We are also going to build some custom dollys using trailer swivel jacks with wheels. We are going to build a little frame that will allow us to bolt the frame up to the swivel jacks where the front and rear bumper supports usually bolt up. This will allow us to not only roll the car around with no suspension, but also easily jack it up and down.

If anyone local wants some stock 4 banger suspension parts, let me know. I'm not going to go through the trouble of shipping them anywhere, but anyone who wants to come pick them up is more than welcome.

It's all in the first post. The only part of the plan that has really changed is that it may or may not get one of the new Boss blocks...
