Breaking News: Bill Ford Steps Down

Looking for supporting documentation...discuss.

Quote:
It just came through on my news wire that Bill Ford stepped down today as Ford CEO. He will be replaced by Alan Mulally, who was the head at Boeing. Billy will be staying on as executive chairman. I wonder what this will do to any products currently being planned in the pipeline???

Quote:
"Analysts said they expected Mulally's arrival would mean that Ford would reexamine all its assets, including the struggling Lincoln division and other nameplates such as Land Rover and Jaguar.

Mulally, who told reporters he drives a Lexus from Toyota Motor Corp., said everything was on the table for review.

"Ford has a great set of brands and as we go forward, we'll be making decisions about that family. (At Boeing), we treasured fuel efficiency, reliability and safety. The fundamentals are exactly the same," he said

Hes from Lawrence Kansas.... grew up here, went to Lawrence High School, graduated from KU, and then the rest is history. Heres from our local paper...

pretty cool

Quote:
“My husband and I just bought a Ford truck last week,” said Alan’s sister Maureen Mulally, who lives in Lawrence and works at KU. “I should have waited a week. I could have gotten a better deal.”

Re: Breaking News: Bill Ford Steps Down

Bill's still on the board as the VP I believe... so hes not completely gone, hes just not the head guy anymore. Hopefully this is just what Ford needed. That article I posted talked about the great things he did at Boeing when Airbus was thought to take the industry lead, but turns out boeing came on strong. Should be interesting to watch what goes on. I enjoy this stuff... its economics and thats what Im in lol.

Lets hope this is a sign that some change is coming. I still love my mustang, but I haven't been able to see myself buying another ford in a long time.

I'm afraid it may be a change for the worse...

Bill Ford was always a big Mustang fan. And this guy is all about "fuel efficiency"???

I hope I'm wrong though...

Re: Breaking News: Bill Ford Steps Down

I hope he looks at import engines and gets that V6's can run faster than a ****ty 200hp stock. Seriously, if a ****ing Altima can go faster than a V6 mustang, something is wrong.

hope he looks at fords motor lineups in general. theres so much power and efficiency that can be pulled out of them.

Re: Breaking News: Bill Ford Steps Down

exactly.

When i think about our engines compared to like BMW's engines I think of what the guys at Top Gear said. Well, about the Mustang GT they test drove with the 05's came out.

You get a V8 4.7 or 4.8 (i forgot which one it's got) that might seem like a lot of power, but you're forgetting you aren't getting the same type of engineering that you see from BMW engines. Their V8's are much more effecient and you see a lot more power out of them, but with this you only get 300 hp.

I really hope they look at the motors and start with some better engineers

My hope is that when he goes for better fuel economy, he puts all the damn cars on a diet and uses up to date light weight materials instead of lead based fiberglass and iron blocks.

:chin: I would like to see more power too, but 300hp really isn't that bad for a cheap, high production car that is built to run on 87 octane. Look at say a Z28 with a LS1. I believe they make 300-310hp from a 5.7L engine that is suppose to be ran with premium fuel.

Re: Breaking News: Bill Ford Steps Down

doubtful... he will probably pull research from the development of making the mustang keep up with the competition (which when has it ever really done that performance wise?) and put the funding into making the line overall more efficient... so the improvments in performance will suffer in order to make the line of offereings get better gas milage~ which will suck.

That's what I'm thinking.
He will look into building efficiency of what we already have. You have to admit, take a Honda Civic. They make very decent power for only having what, a 1.8L? Honda ahs pulled the efficiency out and kept outstanding gas mileage. It can be done and make both sides happy. Maybe he will push that new 3.5...

Re: Breaking News: Bill Ford Steps Down

I don't agree with that Spector. I think he will come in and see what is and is not selling. The mustang is really the flagship of ford. Between the mustang and the F-Series, those are their babies. I think he will dump some of the other re-badged ford models like mercuries and possibly some lincolns.

The horsepower war may slow down in hopes to bring costs down, but I think that might be the only way the mustang would suffer in this deal. Then again, he may push the development along in order to make mustangs sell even better specially with the rumored competition coming down the road with the craparo and challenger.

I can see more aluminum and other lightweight composits coming in this deal. I can also see and improvement in fit and finish coming trying to bring ford up to import build quality.

all of what you said leads in one general direction though. Higher price.

You pay for that engineering though... you dont see the ford 500 costing 40k base price like the beamer 3 series...

True, that's the only downfall I see from it. But if an Altima's 3.5 L V6 engine can produce 250hp, I want my Ford's V6 engine to do the same... or better.. 3.8-3.9-4.0 damn it it better be better
