Trouble sleeping?

Do any of y'all have (or have had) trouble sleeping all the way through the night? I wake up almost every night sometime between 2:30-4:00am. It's ****ing annoying. I'll just wake up and lay there for a little while. Sometimes I might get up and grab a glass of water, or something. Usually, I just lay there until I fall back to sleep. Then it's a real struggle when the alarm clock goes off a couple of hours later. Anybody else fought with this ****?

Re: Trouble sleeping?

I sleep through the night, but it is the getting to sleep that is the hard part. My body doesn't want to sleep until 1-2 am no matter when I go to bed. I will lay there and toss around until 1-2. Then, once I get to sleep, it is nearly impossible to get up no matter how many alarms go off. I turn them off without even knowing it.

That is my exact problem. I am better off going to bed at 4 am if I need to get up by 7 then if I were to go to bed at 9 pm. Once I get deep into sleep, it takes a lot to get out of it.

werd.

if i try to go to bed at like 10-11, ill wake up at 12 or 1 and be wide awake, like i took a small nap. on worknights, i usually sleep from 1:30 till 6:30am. on weekends, i sleep from 3am to around 1pm to make up for the week.

Re: Trouble sleeping?

I've been waking up in the middle of the night here recently too..

annoying as all hell, cause it takes me a while to get back to sleep, and then I'm up again a few hours later to go to class.

Psh, I'll set two or three and won't remember turning any of them off. I even put one across the room, I'm known for getting up, turning it off, and laying back down and going to sleep. I def don't have a problem getting sleep, it's waking up.

I have done the same things with the alarms, but it seems my phone alarm works fine for me now.

I have had trouble sleeping for years. Be it getting to sleep, staying asleep, or feeling rested when I wake up. I am getting a new bed here pretty soon (been on a futon for the past couple years, which may be the problem) so hopefully I will sleep better.

I've been thinking about getting new box spring/mattress, mine are quite old (over 15 years) and that might be part of my back problems and part of never feeling rested.

What time do you hit the rack? I usually head toward Zzz land around 11:30pm or 12:30am and have no problem waking up to my radio alarm clock by 7am. Of course I do smack my snooze button for an hour and I set my RL time 30 min fast. That does a pretty good trick to the mind from time to time. I've been setting my clock 30min fast for probably over a year now. Even after getting use to it, it still plays games with my head when i'm first comming out of REM sleep. You may want to try that. Or you could just implement the time that you wake up during the night and stay up that much later before you go to bed. That could work too.

I've also heard that nuts (not the sexual kind) can help you catch some more Zzz's. Like a cup full a day or before bed. check out the following:

"Filberts, (hazelnuts) because they are high in the amino acid tryptophan, are a good nut for sleep. Almonds and filberts have the most vitamin E (6.7 milligrams per ounce) - nearly 25 percent of the adult recommended dietary allowance.

NUTRITIP
Sleep Nuts } Eating a small handful of nuts as a before-bedtime snack may help you catch more Z's. Some nuts and seeds, especially whole filberts and ground sesame seeds, have a high amount of the sleep-inducing amino acid tryptophan."

see link below. I would take some time to look up info about nuts to see what else you can find.

Re: Trouble sleeping?

It sounds crazy, but you should try deep breathing. It will focus you on that one thing and it will help you to clear your mind of everything. Or you could try a lavender sheet spray for your bed. Lavender will calm your nerves .

My phone has 3 alarm settings, I set them all as well as 2 alarm clocks...and I turn them all off every morning and barely remember maybe 1 of them. Not to mention, the woman harrasses me for about an hour while she gets ready for work and I have no recolection of any conversations we have had in the am...

Re: Trouble sleeping?

I've been having this problem lately too. I usually wake up about an hour or two before I actually have to. Then when the alarm goes off I have to force myself to get out of bed.

It worked out alright this morning because I woke up about 4 am and took some tylenol and drank a bottle of water. I felt much better when 6:30 rolled around than I would have otherwise.

Re: Trouble sleeping?

When I have a lot on my mind it takes me FOREVER to go to sleep. Im a really light sleeper and anything wakes me up. I constantly toss and turn. I sleep with 2 pillows under my head one between my knees and hug another. It has to be completely dark and cool. Im just weird I guess hahaha.

dam thats almost exactly how i sleep. except instead of the pillows, i stick my huge blankets between my legs(i have two sheets, a black fuzzy blanket, a comforter, then another black/wite tiger print fuzzy blanket over that, i need to have something heavy over me at all times), and i have a waterbed thats hella cold.

lately i found i need to listen to something so my brain focuses on one thing then falls asleep rather than focusing on itself and going crazy(either light music or the TV on with just sound and the screen off so its dark). i play Ambient music from DI.FM and i fall asleep in minutes now, or listen to Conan Obrien.
