No and I don't ****ing have to. I could easily make it where it could though. It would be a simple matter of 1) finally getting it tuned, 2) putting a catted mid pipe on it, and 3) hooking the smog pump back up. I'd probably gain horsepower from those 3 things combined. The tune would more than make up for the cats and smog pump.

No. Because of the fact that you were talking about having to sell it a week after you bought it because you can't afford it. Yeah, that's pretty much why.

I'm not arguing with you there.

Hey, you're the one who said:

Not me. Plus, I did not buy my '06 (get it right ***** ) to perform. I bought it because it was a new Mustang GT. It's got a great ride, it's comfortable (the clutch is like butter), it's got a good sounding V8, and it's decently quick. Trust me, if I wanted something balls to the wall fast, I would have taken that 26k and built something ridiculous. Fast is what God made foxes for (on the 8th day BTW). I wanted something nice to drive to work and back and forth to Alabama. And I'm more than happy with it, at least when it's not in the body shop from some dumbass backing in to me...

But if your friends are so concerned about out-running you or anyone else, they shouldn't have bought a SRT4 or a STi. Or a new GT for that matter. Also... I still wouldn't say I couldn't outrun them. Unless they aren't stock.

Anyway, I don't see what the big deal is because you said the exact same **** about them yourself. And I quote...

Re: Got to drive a GT500 tonight

oh lordy.

I can agree with everyone saying the GT500 has too much weight, it's overpriced, and all that jazz. It's a beautiful car though.

what do you think Ford could do or maybe SVT can do to lighten their cars so they can prevent this?

use lighter materials, and design a better chassis with less fat.

Re: Got to drive a GT500 tonight

why the hell don't they? Wouldn't lighter materials and a better chassis cost less? Well, maybe not the lighter materials.. but changing the chassis would just be better overall.

Re: Got to drive a GT500 tonight

do you have any idea how much cost it would take to redesign a chassis for a car and then produce that chassis in limited number vs just using something that is already in production and is already being produced by large numbers? (they should have made the 05+ chassis lighter when they designed it... but its to late now)

Think about it, if you started a business and had to make 100,000 different types of something vs having to make 10... which way would it be cheaper for your overhead?

Ford wants money, they only care about profit - sorry but thats true. Anything that does not net them profit is something they will take no part of (and I dont mean losing money on XX I mean overall statistics) and they didnt want to take that kind of a leap on the gt500 as they didnt need to. They knew that the GT500 buyer would be more interested in the name and trust for to deliver something that is worthy of the name...

If they would have redesigned the GT500 it would be up there with a new Z06 in price~ they just decided to throw a ton of HP on it, change a few body panels and ship it out. At 41k its a good deal even though it has short commings.

Re: Got to drive a GT500 tonight

I think Ford could have taken steps like using an Aluminum Ford GT block instead of the Cast Iron block. (I believe theres about a 100lb difference between the two) I know that the GT uses a Dry Oil Sump but I sure Ford could have modified the block to use a Wet Oil Sump easy enough. (Or just keep the Dry Oil Sump) Also a GT500's block cost about $490, and a Ford GT block cost about $2,555. I know that they went with the Iron block to save money, but when your designing a car that weighs as much as the GT500 does and has a worse F/R weight distribution than a Terminator, a 100lb off the front end is huge. Ford Racing Engine Blocks - JEGS High Performance

Another area's that they could have save weight is lose the power seat, use a lighter drive shaft, and maybe get rid of the side airbags. Besides that I don't know, I'm not a Engineer, but I'm sure Ford could have made this a 3500lb car if they wanted too.

Still for what the car is it does pretty good, but I'm still disappointed that Ford didn't take steps to fix the cars problems, instead of just working around them.

Re: Got to drive a GT500 tonight

^^^i just mean the whole S197 chassis in general, not just a certain trim level. generally, cars are supposed to get lighter as lighter and stronger alloy's come into focus, not heavier. its sad when you have uni-body cars that are heavier than larger vehicles of the mid 70's with body over frame construction.

completely understandable that it would cost money, but at the same time if people saw the car was becoming a faster lighter vehicle wouldn't that generate more sales to the people who buy a Mustang for power?

Would only be a little worse than seeing a 45k base price.

Along with all the safe feature, and aminities a lot of the weight is do to the Mod Motors. They weigh about the same as the old big block motors of the 60's and 70's, and they take up more space in the engine bay. And thats just a GT's 4.6L SOHC motor.

so instead of a 45k car with a 40k markup, it would be a 70k car with a 40k markup? anyone that is willing or able to spend the money for the 45K+40K pricetag probably will not flinch at the latter.
