Wine drinkers?

Any of y'all drink red wine? They keep coming out with studies proclaiming how wonderful it is for you. I haven't seen nearly the same thing for beer or tequilla, yet, unfortunately. So I've tossed around the idea of trying to get into the wine thing. The problem is, I've never had a red wine that I could even stand in the least. I've had a couple of Chardonnays that were drinkable, but that's about it. Somebody recommend me some decent "starter" red wines that I can try. Inexpensive ones would be nice.

Re: Wine drinkers?

Merlot is one of my favorites. Some of the hybrids are also less tart.. the Merlot-Chardonnay can be good, if it's from the right vineyard.

You don't have to dump $10/bottle, the cheap stuff is ok, and you can kill a bottle without thinking about it. Hell, you can kill 4 bottles as fast as you can a 6-pack.

Its way cooler if you take the bag of wine out of the box, stick a straw in it, and drink it like a giant alcoholic CapriSun, lol.

I've heard of yellow tail, and for wine on a budget it beats the stuff that comes in a pouch

I won't say I hate wine because I have only tried one red win and it was a cheap wine... so I am open to trying out the better stuff.

Re: Wine drinkers?

Go for a dessert wine, they are sweeter and less bitter/tart tasting.

Re: Wine drinkers?

Like anything else in life, you get what you pay for,and wine is no exception!
There are some bargains out there if you spend the time to look and try different things to see what you like, but don't expect most inexpensive wine to be very good.
There is a great selection of wines between 10 and 20 dollars per bottle and generaly the quality goes up as the price goes up.But,once again not all people like all different wines.
Try a nice Italian Chianti,Tomaiolo Riserva 1997, with some pasta or a good steak, these wines age very well and a 5 or 6 year old bottle can be had under 15 dollars.
Or, a nice Sauvignon Blanc,Sterling Vintner,s Collection 2005,is great with roast chicken or a white fish dinner.
And don't overlook Champagne, goes with almost anything, try Domaine Ste. Michelle Blanc De Blancs, from the Columbia Valley and under 15 dollars.
I could go on,since the variety of wines is large,as is the variety of beers and other adult beverages, enjoy them all in moderation when out and about, and when you are at home.Well ,live it up!
