Congressman and Koran?

The Seattle Times: Nation & World: Minnesota Democrat's decision to use Quran for oath riles right

I've been reading about this guy using the Koran when he takes his congressional oath. There are people up in arms over this ****. You don't have to use any book at all, or you can carry your own bible, dictionary, telephone book, or whatever, if you want to swear on something. Does it bother you than he used the Koran?

My Opinion:
It doesn't bother me at all.

I have 2 opinions about it.

1.) It is the news trying to make more of a situation than it really is.
2.) It is a person trying to get attention instead of just going with the flow and following the STFU rule.

I don't have a problem with it at all, now if he is doing it just to piss people off, then I have a problem. If he is indeed a devout muslim, then I have no problem with it.

I do see what you are saying and can agree that its being made a bigger deal than it should. I bet if I took in a book of poetry there would be no big news about it.

He has no problem using the bible or the phone book as he realises the book is just a prop. However, to cause waves, chose to use the koran and the press and loony toons bit hook, line, and sinker.. My guess is he will now ask for a special room in the capitol building so he can pray 5 times a day during sessions...and all that fun stuff now too.

Re: Congressman and Koran?

^that article is great markuz.. good stuff

+1 for the treaty of tripoli (signed by george washington) which explicitly states, verbatim, that "the US government is not, in any sense, founded on the christian religion"
