Post Winstall.exe - helpp!

Hi Hallo
My computer was infected with a trojan virus today, from a link from someone on msn messenger. I ran AVG Free and the virus went to the vault, which i have deleted and all seems to be running fine now. however, i've had to vault it three times. when I restart, the virus seems to reappear. but my computer is running fine.

there is an icon on my desktop titled winstall.exe which when scanned doesn't contain a virus, but I have just had a quick scan thru some stuff on the internet and get the idea that its a nasty little program that lets other nasty stuff infect my computer I can't delete it, and in fact, am not sure if this is accurate and am a little worried its an important windows file i shouldnt be deleting at all.

I've now installed Avira Antivir as well, as a double up safety precaution, but no spyware detection programs as yet (I'm not even sure if I'm wording that correctly..)

Lots of thanks

Re: Winstall.exe - helpp!

get spybot search and destroy. i bet there is massive amounts of spyware on your computer that isnt helping the situation.

The home of Spybot-S&D!

as for the winstall file..

How To Remove Spysheriff / Winstall.exe / Spysheriff.exe

SpySheriff is a rogue anti-spyware application that uses fake alerts and false positives as a goad into scaring you into purchasing their software. This software is usually installed by Trojans that issue fake security alerts in your Windows taskbar stating that you are infected with a variety of malware. When you click on this warning, SpySheriff will be download and installed and start scanning your system. The malware will also change your Windows desktop to a black background with a warning message stating that your computer is in danger.

All of these warnings are being issued as a scare tactic used to scam you into purchasing this software. Screenshots of the desktop background, SpySheriff software, and fake taskbar alerts are found below.
that site has all the information needed to fix the situation. just google error messages and unknown files and you will surprised at the amount of results you get.

Re: Winstall.exe - helpp!

What OS do you have ?? If you Have XP turn off system restore and then run the scan once it's cleaned turn restore back on. If you have some computer skills you can search windows registry for the winstall.exe and delete the exe if you find a copy in the registry. Do a backup of the reg If you go that path cause if you **** up the reg your PC is worthless

You could try this as well winstall.exe - winstall - Process Information

Mods-K&N CAI , True Dual Flowmaster 40, BBK Ceramic Shorties, 3.73 , 25% UDP, 3/8 Phenolic Intake Spacer ,Steeda Tri-ax, SCT Chip/Dyno Tune
