People without pulses

Bodyhack

Quote:
The new mechanical heart, which is powered by batteries located in pouches on [the patient's] body, provides a continuous flow of blood so the patient has no pulse.

[He] happens to be the only individual currently living in Canada without a pulse and without a measurable blood pressure, [a doctor] said Wednesday.

Wow.

He has blood pressure, btw. They just can't measure it, because current methods of measuring blood pressure rely on a pulse to get their readings.

One day, not in any of our lifetimes, they'll have mechanical replacements for every organ. People will be almost immortal.

We can clone now why not just clone em and replace them once they wear out.

I think you should re-visit where that stem cell research money goes, then you'll understand why bush is against it.

tell that to people who need it. i know a blind person and a deaf person who is completely for stem cell research because they have to live their life handicapped. there are much more serious things that stem cell research can cure too.

also, if we dont fund it, other countries are going to pass us up. russia recently just aborted 1000 fetuses in order to aid their stem cell research. they realize that it will save far more lives...

The text between the lines reads:
"The President of the United States is a Christian fundamentalist. He makes decisions based on Religious superstition rather than rational thought."

Where does it go, save me the googling.

I honestly think that religion is what is going to kill the human race. I mean we could be saving lives and developing even more advanced ways of treatment if people would just get over the idea that some being above is watching and not approving.

If we let religion get in the way of helping our own race, religion being something that relies on faith and almost no scientific proof, it seems like we are sort of shooting ourselves in the foot.

I do believe in a God, but I don't think he really cares what we are doing about the cloning thing. We aren't playing god by using stem cells to grow organs for needy people. If anything he should be happy and proud that something of his own creation has developed into something so smart that they possess the ability to fix his own mistakes. It's science, not blasphemy.

We are playing god by deciding who lives or dies by NOT cloning stem cells and saving good people who's health has gone astray instead of letting the next step of our own evolution continue. It's just one more step in the overall timeline.

eh.

this post reminded me of 2 video games... black and white and this game that is coming out soon called spore (looks sweet). both are a "playing god" game where you help your people/creatures progress/evolve.

in both games, i think it would bother me if they refused to progress and decided to regress as a species. also, it would bother me even more if they fought each other. so i agree with you that i would be proud of my people/creatures in the game if they made a major scientific breakthrough like stem cell research and saved millions of lives and billions to come.

Re: People without pulses

ANd just think about that doors it may open up in the future, if we are able to clone organs and grow them, can we accelerate the process and use it in our emergency rooms.

Someone comes in with a severed hand, they dont have the rest of the hand so normally they would lose it. If we could clone their hand, on the spot, no stitches, star trek stuff. Just whip out your iClone and clone away.

I don't think religion is going to kill the human race. If we survived the Roman Catholic Church of the Middle Ages, we can survive anything as far as religion is concerned.

Besides, the days of religion are soon to pass. When our generation is running this place, I bet that the number of fundamentalists Christians will probably be cut in half. Our generation has really began to separate itself from such things.

Not to mention, Christianity is no longer really holding anything back. They are no longer killing innocent people. They are no longer even really the majority in our country. If they were, you wouldn't see gays getting married, the kinda **** you see on TV 24/7, et cetera, et cetera.

I kinda agree with them about this whole stem cell research thing anyway. The world is overpopulated enough as it is. So why do we constantly try to save the weak? It's going against nature. That's the problem with our society. We coddle the weak and stupid. And look at us. As a whole, we are quickly becoming weak and stupid. Natural selection has stopped, and we are beginning to "devolve". If anything is going to kill the human race, it will be sheer stupidity.

Also, I personally don't want my body filled with biomechanical devices so I can live forever. I look forward to dying before I become a useless sponge. Besides, the real barrier to humans living longer is the brain. We can make fake hearts all day long. Brains, however, are not so simple. Hell, we still haven't figured out what that other 90% is for (I'm guessing it has something to do with DMT ). They don't last forever either. That's why old people become senile.

So if you guys want to live an extra forty years of life in a mindless sort of vegetated state, be my guest. I'm more than happy to go ahead and die while I can still understand what the **** that means.
