would you trade...........?

an 04 v6 auto w/ 69k miles for an 00 GT with 116k miles?

the GT needs a good wash/wax/claybar....new radiator and battery. and nothing is wrong with my car. i had my buddy (who owns a mustang speed shop) check it out and he said those were some issues but other than that it was good. both are autos, the GT is bone stock

well if i keep the car, i will never sell it. i'll upgrade the suspension and throw some cobra rims on it, then when i graduate from college (should be 2yrs, but in reality 3) i'll buy a beater car for the DD and build this one up. its gonna be a v6 racecar 4.2L w/ forged internals, 8.8, built auto, and 15psi

dont mod it cuz you want it to be something it cant, if you want to mod it and enjoy it for what it is fine just realize the end of what it will be and decide if it will make you happy or notl

Re: would you trade...........?

Yes, because I still say your car is not going to be the same. I don't care if the shop says they guarantee the work for the life of your car or not. It took a hell of a shot to the rear 1/4, twisted the body, and fubared your axel. It is going to seem ok for a while due to the excitement of having your car back after 2 months...but it still isn't going to be the same.

If Cody says that car looks like it is in good shape, I would say go for it. It may have 116k miles, but one of two things is true based on what you said about the engine yesterday. Being as clean as it is, it is either A.) A new engine or B.) Was very well maintained. In either case, the mileage won't matter. As long as the underside is in good shape and there are no noises etc when driving it, I would say go for it even though it is an auto. Besides, there is no reason this couldn't be a straight up trade and even pull some money out of them in the process to pay for the radiator and battery...and possibly some other items.

Building up a V6 is a good idea, but not to be your hotrod track car. If you keep it, I would say build it up to be a peppy daily driver then get a V8 to be your hotrod. With the 6, you are going to put in thousands and end up just above what the right V8 would start at.

But, I am sure I will be able to state better what I think once I see the car. I still don't believe they got the paint right. Will be interesting to see in the sun and not under the shop lights.

I Agree

It may have 116K. But that less then 20K a year, a good part maybe highway mile .
If the engine was well maintain and you had the car looked at and they told you it was all good Go for it

hey, come on now. not all 6's are bad.

but given the info that was given after my vote, i think that you should get a second opinion on the repairs. if it doesn't come back the way you like, then trade.

Mustangs aren't muscle cars, and as long as there have been Mustangs, there have been six cylinder Mustangs.

Re: would you trade...........?

i got the car back today............i work at a paint store and i cant tell the difference in paint color. they buffed and polished the whole car, which is probably why i couldnt.

rob i'll swing by your house tomorrow after i get off work. cody checked out my newly repaired car and said "i think you made a big deal out of nothing." or something like that. the only thing thats wrong now is a tune issue and my left exhaust pipe hangs about 1 inch lower than the right, i'll get that fixed tomorrow morning on my way to work. i didnt want the dealer to do it b/c i didnt want them to keep my car another day and i wanted the ****er back.

i wanna hang on to it and then probably trade it when i get outta college or make it a peppy DD.

Re: would you trade...........?

I vote yes.

if youre going to keep the 6er and build it up, why not trade up and build up the GT just the same? youre starting with a better platform than the 6er.

If the mileage scares you, it shouldnt, the 4.6L lasts a LONG time, i mean hell, look at the mileage cabbies put on them nationwide, its a dam reliable motor. The drivetrain, on the other hand...........but then again, that wouldnt matter, if you were going to build the 6er, that shares the same drivetrain minus tranny and rear, so you were gonna be changing those anyways since they wont last at big power levels, so changing out for a better T5 or a better rear end (axles, diff, gears) is a moot argument. plus if you were gonna build the 3.8L to a forged 4.2L, then whats the difference in going from a 4.6L to a built 4.6L or a built mod5.0, again, another moot argument, and you will be starting at a fresh 0 miles, which totally cancells out the high mileage motor argument.

though unless you really like either car, id say if youre going for performance, start off with the best platform straight off the bat. if the 6er is paid off and after college whatever, leave it as a nice DD and get a 03/04 Cobra, in its STOCK to bolt-on form, its equavilent to most SC'd GT's with full mods minus going into the motor, and equavilent to your V6's extensively modded.

Just keep the 6 man. I've debated this back and forth for the past few years while going through college. Now that I'm in my last semester I'm buying a truck to get around in and I'm gonna start looking at all my options this summer when I have a larger and much more reliable income.
Coming from someone who has gone through all this, just keep it.

it all depends on the previous owner, what kind of miles, etc.

Mine were mostly freeway miles, so at 90k where im at now, im seeing the effects of what happens to parts when exposed to long-term running at high speeds (tranny, differential).

besides, at stock levels, i doubt anything majorly expensive is gonna break.

Re: would you trade...........?

At the end of the day you would have been trading for the slowest GT in 99+ .... with high miles (not just for the year just in general cuz for 00 thats not terrible) and its older and you dont really know what all has been done to it.

Save your cash if you know you wont be happy with your car, no need in dumping money into something that you dont like cuz you will get NOTHING out of it, just wasted cash when you modify a car.

Slowest GT? How are the 99's, and 01-04's faster than the 00? They are the same damn car.
