ok, here we go again

would you mod a v6 to be a quick, reliable DD and buy a GT/cobra for the weekend racecar?

i am contemplating either keeping the car like it is until i graduate, then trading it in; or building it up to be a quick DD and then buying something else to be the weekend race car, after i graduate. but i would be starting this week on the mods. i know a guy that can hook me up with a nice suspension setup (2in drop), then throw some cobras on it, forged internal kit, stall, 8.8, someone's stock eaton setup, b/c i heard someone is working on making a setup to run one on a 3.8/3.9. hopefully i can have most of it done before i graduate, then buy a v8 and get into that one. really any 94-04 v8 would be nice, 5.0 or 4.6

Kyle, I can tell you this now. You don't want to go too deep in your car right now. Reason being, stuff is going to break, it's part of it. What are you going to do if your car has to be down for a week or two?
Suspension is something that can be done in a few hours, wheels, 8.8. Those all sound like things you can accomplish in the next few years while you are waiting on graduation.
But, before you start any of this you need to decide if you want to sell the car when you grad to buy something else, or just keep it and get something else. When you start modding it, the value isn't going to go up, actually to most ppl it will drop and you will never get your money back out of the car.

you wont have enough money mod two cars until you get out of college and you will wind up moding one and forgetting about the other. If you want a weekend car then leave the DD alone and just drive it.

I kept my black car until I graduated college and I had some good money saved up, I sold the black car which was pretty much paid for and took all the cash and got the car I wanted, and now I have a DD as well.

but my thing is, i want 2 mustangs........one DD and one weekend race car. my car is already paid off, so why not just build this up to make it a solid DD? what i planned on doin was getting all the mods for this car (except the motor) done before i graduated, which would be suspension ($400, ordering this week hopefully), wheels ($900 w/ tires, coming around tax time), 8.8 ($?, hopefully around the summer), adapter kit for eaton s/c (cant be more than $300, after the '07 3rd quarter bonus checks come in), eaton s/c kit off cobra (~$400, christmas cash), and beefing up the auto (no more than $1k, dunno when). then graduate, save a little more, throw in a forged 4.3 and have a fast auto DD.............have fun and play with that for a little while, then pick up on a 99-04 (preferrably) v8 5-speed and then start on that one.

now that i think of it, i probably wont get the "race car" until i finish or am satisfied with the 6er. oh, and the weekend race car will be a vert b/c i might take out the a/c

very true, im not in school, wish i was, but im not. my goal has been to do small things here and there to the mustang when i was in HS, then the last few years. but now i look at it and it has 140,000+ miles on it, so do i want to keep it and build it up, or keep it how it is for now and use it for a DD when i get a cobra? (haha cobra wont come be4 i get hitched )

Another thing, is you WILL NOT have time to work on your car during college; especially if you go to school away from home. If you do live at home, maybe on weekends, but time will still be hard to find.

Don't dump a lot of $$ into it unless you are really planning on keeping it for a while.

dont dump all that money into your v6 if you plan to buy another weekend car, its just not worth it. Do a few things but leave it reliable.
