anyone up for some Hockey?

over the past two days a nice layer of ice has formed in our pool. they say its gonna stay like this up until thursday. its been getting down to low 20's high 10's here in the valley at night.

i sprayed water on the top in hopes it will aide in making it thicker, like a ghetto zambonie. you can almost step fully onto it, but you start to sink into the pool and the other side starts to come out of the water a foot or two and then the whole sheet snaps in half.

I've never played hockey, but I wouldn't mind doing so if it meant eternal glory.

It is snowing in some of the parishes (aka counties) around here...getting "lake effect show" so I am being told...not sure how they can be getting lake effect...or if the weather dudes here even know what real lake effect snow is...but yeah, it is snowing in parts of LA today.

Re: anyone up for some Hockey?

wtf is lake effect snow?

and yeah, we are setting records here in cali. ONCE our pool did freeze over with a very thin sheet of ice (the kind where its cardboard thick and cracks when you touch it), but never before has it frozen like this.

im not complaining though, ill take cold weather anyday over hot. If youre cold, you get more clothes and you warm up, if youre hot, youre hot no matter what, you can strip down and still be hot as ****. I just wish we could get some cloud cover, i love gloomy weather, especially if its like gloomy rain and everything is just wet and damp.

Re: anyone up for some Hockey?

Quote:
Lake effect snow, which can be a type of snowsquall, is produced in the winter when cold dry winds move across long expanses of warmer lake water, picking up water vapor which freezes and is deposited on the lee shores. This effect is enhanced when the moving air mass is uplifted by the orographic effect of higher elevations on the downwind shores. This uplifting can produce narrow, but very intense bands of precipitation, which deposit at a rate of many inches of snow per hour. The areas affected by lake effect snow are called snowbelts.

I don't mind cold weather, but, honestly, I preffer hot weather. Funny thing is, I don't even really like wearing shorts. It doesn't matter how hot and humid it gets (and it gets hot and humid around here) I'm in jeans. Extreme temps either way don't bother me much, but I would choose being extremely hot over freezing.

If we were somewhere where there were some hills, and even a substancially sized lake, I might could accept the lake effect snow claim, however, having lived between lake erie and lake ontario for 26 years and the fact there are no hills around here besides ant hills and no lake really big enough in the areas they are refering to, I am betting the weather dude has no idea what he is talking about.

yeah i used to wear shorts in summer, now i wear jeans all through, except for my swimmin trunks.

btw anyone ever watch the "Man vs Wild" episode where hes stuck on the swiss alps (if i recall) and he intentionally jumps into the frozen river to show what to do if you fall into a frozen body of water? that dude is my hero.

Specially when you live between 2 of them and if the storm angles right, you get double the snow...hence the 7 feet we got over night a few years back on christmas eve.
