The Hawking Paradox

Who's seen it?

I've watched it a few times already and I get chills thinking about it. At the same time, I think we should just send a monkey in a rocket ship into a black hole and let everybody see what happens.

Crap it'd be awhile..

lol

Stephen Hawking

here ya go, read away. Hawking's lecture on other Life Forms on other planets is kinda interesting, some things I agree on, but others is a little far fetched

Re: The Hawking Paradox

Did anyone read the Life on another planet lecture?

From what he discusses, in the future we will be able to alter our DNA to where we can almost become "super human".

It's almost like an X-men type of future for us with the mutants and all.

Everyone will have altered DNA to better themselves so we can live longer, remember more, and just develop our own evolution rather than waiting for us to gradually change. Eventually, no one will be born without their DNA being altered. And it is those people who will lead us out of war and everything to better the human race and expand into space.

Sounds like Gattica to me, and we all know how that ended up.

Re: The Hawking Paradox

Gattica was a pretty damn good movie I'd have to admit, a little long though

Re: The Hawking Paradox

Um possibly? If you have the firefox extension you can save it as a *.flv I think.. but then you'll need a *.flv viewer..

gattaca is an awesome movie, if you know what you are watching. i watched it once when it first came out, then again in biology class where we went really in-depth on it and its implications.

Re: The Hawking Paradox

I came over an interesting theory while in class today when I was sorta thinking about Hawking's theory on how we will better improve ourselves to make us faster, stronger, live longer, etc. by altering our genes.

My theory is, no matter how much we change ourselves and make us nearly invincible, we will always be vulnerable to simple viruses. We can make a cure for the common cold, we could alter our genes to make it so our white cells could easier destroy our current viruses. But new viruses will evolve because of this.

Like a computer, no matter what kind of update it has, or operation system is may have, someone comes up with a new virus for it. Hawking believes that even computer viruses could be classified as a real virus, it does the same thing and serves a purpose like a real virus, even if it's man made.

Examples like AIDS, Cancer, things like this will one day be cured, even the flu, but it will come back and get us no matter what due to it's constant changing. Therefore, we might become God like, but we can still die from a tiny creature that we cannot see.
