Apple's Jobs calls for end to Copy Protection on Songs

I don't care for most Apple software/hardware but I agree with this.

amen!

i just wrote an essay on the evolving music industry and how recording companies are trying to prevent change rather than accept it. if you are too ****ing stupid to realize the market is changing with new technologies you arent fit to survive.

I disagree with the RIAA on most things, but I do think that an artist should have at least some rights on their music. I would expect something like this from a thief like Mr. Jobs though.

the point is that DRM is only on songs that you download from the itunes store. it's not put into songs that you rip from cds yourself. cd's have no drm encryption... so, with that fact in mind, DRM only protects 3% of all music sold from piracy

so, what's the point?

DRM is a waste of effort. No matter how much money is spent on it, people out there will figure out ways around it. It's inevitable. Realizing that the market has changed and there are different ways to make money off of digital media: priceless.

But digital media is ****.

People download the singles and that's it.

What ever happened to sitting down and listening to an entire album, the way it was intended to be listened to?

I think a lot of the problem has more to do with the "artists" than anyone else though. Still, the artist who are actually putting out stuff that is worth listening to should have some rights to protect their creation.

I agree, when I download, if I do, I get the entire album. Sometimes the songs I like the most are the ones that NEVER make popular radio. If I just downloaded the ones I hear on the radio or whatever, I would be missing out on SOOO many kick *** songs.
