Re: Anybody Good at Sequencing Numbers?

3 is C.

What makes it clear is the "3 6 9" and the "12 15 18" parts. That's obviously just adding three, three times in a row. What separates them also involves three. First you have the 20. Skip over the next three... Then 17, 14. Skip over the next three... 11, 8.

So...

Its like this:

a - 3 * 0, b + 3 * 0, b + 3 * 1, b + 3 * 2, a - 3 * 1, a - 3 * 2, b + 3 * 3, b + 3 * 4, b + 3 * 5, a - 3 * 3, a - 3 * 4... etc.

So, if you plug in a = 20 and b = 3... you get:

20 3 6 9 17 14 12 15 18 11 8.

Re: Anybody Good at Sequencing Numbers?

I checked for a few minutes earlier today. I didn't see anything obvious.

Re: Anybody Good at Sequencing Numbers?

1 is D.

This one was harder. What keyed me off here are two types of sequences...

"12 10" and "8 6"

and...

"16 17" and "18 19"

It should be pretty obvious from there.

a - 2 * 0, a - 2 * 1, b + 1 * 0, b + 1 * 1, a - 2 * 2, a - 2 * 3, b + 1 * 2, b + 1 * 3, a - 2 * 4... etc

So plug in 12 for a and 16 for b and you get...

12 10 16 17 8 6 18 19 4

Re: Anybody Good at Sequencing Numbers?

2 is E.

a = 7. b = 3.

a + 4 * 0, a + 4 * 1, b + 5 * 0, b + 5 * 1, b + 5 * 2, a + 4 * 2, a + 4 * 3, b + 5 * 3, b + 5 * 4, b + 5 * 5

So...

7, 11, 3, 8, 13, 15, 19, 18, 23, 28

Re: Anybody Good at Sequencing Numbers?

A is either incredibly hard, or a typo.

Part of it's easy.

"42 35 28" and "21 14 7" are an obvious sub-sequence.

Is (A) possibly supposed to be 34, 0 instead of 54, 0?

Ok, that makes sense too. So that means:

a = 4. b = 6.

9 * (a + 0), 7 * (b - 0), 7 * (b - 1), 7 * (b - 2), 9 * (a + 1), 7 * (b - 3), 7 * (b - 4), 7 * (b - 5), 9 * (a + 2), 7 * (b - 6)

Or...

36, 42, 35, 28, 45, 21, 14, 7, 54, 0, -7, -14, 63, -21, -28, -35, 72...etc etc etc.
