To be honest, I'd put it in the bank and watch the interest grow. You'll thank yourself later when you need it...

I was thinking of the same thing about the saving 30 and investing 5, and investing 5 in the car.

Re: I'm joining the Navy.

Yea I do to. lol I'm gonna be looking at close to 6 months of total training at first. They said it would be rough but I can do it. I ship out next month. I don't get the money until I complete training though. I know I can do it.

Re: I'm joining the Navy.

Buy a 2 cobras sell your current car and put all that into savings.
Send one Cobra to pineville, la...

If you want a Cobra use some as a down payment...Sell or trade in your current car then save the rest and only use it when u NEED it.. You will have low intrest being in the military so your monthly salary should be more than enought to cover the payments and you will prolly stay on base for CHEAP or free. Just a thought

Re: I'm joining the Navy.

After all my training I should be coming back home to louisiana for a little while if I can. As far as trading my car I want to keep it to have N/A 2v car, and I might just wait on the cobra. As far as sending a check out it might be 6-8 months maybe lol.

I guess I'm just not much for investing...I must say though, there's no way I could save all of it lol.

Re: I'm joining the Navy.

Im still on the car part so im gonna post this.
If you want a Cobra put down a good down payment then finance the rest. You can have the car you want while building your credit. Its a win/win situation. Maybe even trade in your car to help with the down payment. But then again if you are gonna be doin alot of traveling wait till you get settled down and the Cobras might have dropped in price by then and you can get it cheaper.

Re: I'm joining the Navy.

Air Force Special Forces FTW!

but yeah, in the seals they test how long you can stay underwater. they train you to the point where its mind over matter, you can stay under for a few minutes because you learn to fight off the urge to instinctively take a breath (which drowns you) or rise to the surface.

Re: I'm joining the Navy.

Well I currently live up in the mountains in Idaho, so getting use to hold the atmosphere up here should help in seals traing when I go to NC for the seals training. I already run 5 miles a day ride my for 10 miles and swim laps in a pool at our local gym up here. Before I signed I use run 2miles a day and ride my bike for 5miles. and didn't swim. Now I do everything, I workout anywhere from 3-4 hours a day up in here in the mountains. less oxy. up here so it takes more out of me but I'm starting to get use to it now though. After I get back down to sea level it shouldn't be a prob breathing.

Cajuns correct your gonna spend alot of time underwater better start doing those laps under the water

You might check how you get paid that 40k. They paid me 1/2 at first and spread the rest over 4 years, also they taxed the **** out of it.2:

Re: I'm joining the Navy.

90 seconds is nothing spectacular. No, I can't do it, but, serious contenders are on the order of 3-5, maybe even more now, minutes.

Hell, on that show Joes vs Pros, the one pro swimmer held his for 3 mins 45 secs I believe.

I know skin divers go somewhere around 5 or 6 minutes I believe.

Re: I'm joining the Navy.

They didn't really tell me the other day but I have to call the officer monday, so I can ask him then. They told me it would be anywhere from a 1-3 months before I would even leave for training though, so I have a lil'bit of time to try and train on my breathing and holding my breath.

Re: I'm joining the Navy.

Just anytime your in a car RIDING somewhere(not driving) practice holding your breath. Ive been doing it for as long as I can remember and am able to hold my breath for almost 3 minutes. If you can get by the initial urge to suck air in it's really easy to start tacking seconds onto your original time.

Like someone here said its all mind over matter. Good luck with Hell Week, its the reason I never joined...

Re: I'm joining the Navy.

i used to do a breathing exercise that when i started trying, i could only hold it for less than a minute. by the end of 45 minutes i was holding it for about 3 min and 30 seconds and thats where i stopped. im sure i could have gone longer if i kept going tho. just suck in as much air as ur lungs can take in and once ur at that point, take in a couple more gasps. let it out quickly and take it in very quickly, out quickly, in quickly. and keep going for like 5 minutes. then try it out. take in as much as you can and then just keep pulling it in, and it will sting a little in your chest, but just hold it. your really just stretching your lungs out more and more. for the first minute your chest will hurt, but you will get past it eventually. its the same exercise the deep sea pros use. give it a try. just dont pass out. lol

Re: I'm joining the Navy.

boot is 2 mo, then there is u r a school, then u gotta wait till a new seal class forms, then u go to coronado ca for a few mo, then u have jump school, then hand to hand training and other forms of training. so u r in for about 2 yrs of school and training and u r going to be in at least 4 states before u r a seal. so u might wanna wait untill u make it and get to u r perm. duty station before u get a car. oh yeah the NAVY will hold on to u r sign on bonus for a few pays after you get to u r final duty station. and if u dont make it for any reason u dont get the 40,000. but i think u should deff. save most of it let intrest grow. and besides by the time u get done with u r training u should b at least a 2nd class. that means that u will b getting round 1300+ every 2 weeks. u will have alot of time to decide what 2 do with u r money so dont think that u have to do it as soon as possible. chill and dont do anything dumb like spending it all on u r car. it will be fun but its better to buy a decent car and get a nice house, and then trade in the other car and buy a real nice one. its better bringing a chick to a house and let them know that u got u r s*** together.
