Has Gas Gone Up in Your Area?

I was wondering if its just the northeast or what but gas is almost back to 3 bucks in my area and its not even freakin summer wtf

2.76 is the cost of gas down the street from me and they just keep on climbing

wtf is the reasoning this time to raise prices

Re: Has Gas Gone Up in Your Area?

There are 2 current reasons:

1.) Daylight savings time expected to strain production...as posted in the WTF thread.

2.) "Concerns over falling gasoline inventories from decreased refinery production and fewer imports have boosted oil and gasoline prices lately. On Wednesday, the government reported that total U.S. motor gasoline inventories fell by 3.8 million barrels to 216.4 million barrels, a sharper decline than the 1.4 million barrel drop that analysts had expected."

FOXNews.com - Lundberg Survey: Gas Prices Spike 20 Cents in Past 2 Weeks - Business And Money | Business News | Financial News

More accurate answer is probably the desire to get a head start on the profits so they can beat the numbers last year...if they don't beat the numbers, they look like they fail at business...

EDIT: Oh, and yeah, it has gone up about .20 here in the last few weeks. It is now 2.39 for 87...

Or maybe it's because oil is a depleting natural resource and the laws of supply and demand actually work.

but what if its not? i havent seen any proof either way.

IMO america needs to get off their *** and start drilling up in the ANWR, i mean hell, we can put that to use without even harming the ecosystem, i dont see what the problem is. couple that with the oil still fresh in the gulf and we can get off foreign dependency for oil, and stick it to them.

Scut where do you gas up in Wilpo, it seems to me the gas from Sheetz on Maynard has horrible mileage to it. The exxon down 3rd though, mmmm. One of the girls that works there is hot too.

lol i suck @ teh license test. i couldnt stay in the circle worth a damn. even my buddy couldnt do it on his F4i

but all is good, i have the dimensions and the how-to on the course you take (at least for the CA M1 license) so im gonna get some chalk and cones and build the course on my street. if all else fails just a permit is ok for me, i just cant ride on the freeway, at night or carrying a passenger.

Or maybe it is the fact that the price of oil is all based on speculation...where if the butterflies return a day late, the price per barrel has to jump $2....or if we move the clocks ahead and hour, the price has to go up because people MIGHT drive more...because we all know cars don't have headlights, so we will all want to squeeze in an extra hour of driving 3 weeks early...so I would expect it to bottom out when we fall back an hour...oh wait, then we might use that extra hour in the morning instead of at night...****, better jump the price again in the fall.

Or, that the gov't has made it so damn hard to build new, more efficient, refineries that the market can hardly keep up with demand.

The whole depleting resource is true, but, no one knows how much is left or how long we have...so it is back to the whole speculation thing again.

Re: Has Gas Gone Up in Your Area?

yeah, gas is right around $2.50 here again... it was down to $2.09 ish. I miss it ... oh well. And yes, you can look into how much oil is being found vs. how much oil is being used and figure in the amount in reserves and under taps and see how long it will be until we use it all up (the joys of differential equations). Anyway, a site I was reading for a biochemistry speech on hydrogen production via non-photosynthetic anaerobic hydrogenase activity, and they said in another 10-ish years there will be an oil crisis where the cost of gas makes the price of everything sky rocket... and by like 2040-2050 there won't be enough oil around to make a difference for anything. They had a nice graph too... but I can't find that source.

Anyway, I say bring on the hydrogen engines. There is so much more potential with hydrogen engines than with gasoline engines.. plus they're up to 4 times as efficient at turning available energy into motion (instead of just heat). Think about the ease of compression. I would love to see a hydrogen engine making MONSTER horsepower just to get the idea of hydrogen vehicles really out there.
