I did that 2 years ago in telecommunications. Fun ****.
Our fiber optics time was limited but still cool. There was a seperate fiber class but i didnt take it. I transferred campus's and to my misfortune this campus doesnt have the same classes.... odd.... their the same schools.
I started at NHCTC nashua, but it was a ****ty drive so i went to
NHCTC manchester. The telecommunications class i took in Nashua wasnt even offered so they didnt give me a credit. bastards.

anyway, We also had a test/activity where there was 2 different local area networks running off cat 5 on 2 different tables. (the long tables that schools have)
Our wiring teacher wired them up and said it didnt work. We had to test every cable and replace or remake the cable or connector and get our network working before the other group. It was fun.

Yeah, I got to do a lot of cisco network/switch/router setup. 5-6 different nets running different routing protocols. Taking the separate fiber class this time.

But epoxying and baking a connector was fun

I don't think I've actually worked with anyone who was working in their degree-field. My boss was an Aeronautical Engineering/Astrophysics double-degree; one of the programmers was a Nuclear engineer, salesman was a Math/Physics guy...

Odd, how people spend tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars for an education, and go an almost entirely different route.

I hate Cisco, we use it at the HCCC (Hamilton county com. center (AKA Dispatch for police and fire)) and it will crash atleast once a week. it sucks so bad.

Hehehe... I design these systems for a living

I work and play with CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6 (new), and CAT3 (Voice). I also play with 1 to 48 Strand single mode and or Multimode Fiber

ahh.. all the little stuff eh Evin?

My new fiber route from NY to DC has 768 True-Wave RS!

smallest/slowest signal I deal with is DS-3.

I have multiple OC-192 systems on the same piece of glass (bi-directional) in New England
