Mustang Still The Most Popular Sports Car

Quote:
1. Ford Mustang
The legendary American pony car has continued to be a hit after going retro a couple of years ago. Available in a coupe or convertible, the rear-wheel-drive Mustang has a starting price of under $20,000 with the base 210-horsepower V6 coupe. The high-performance GT version is equipped with a 4.6-liter 300-horsepower V8 which can run to 60 mph in just 5 seconds and to 100 mph in 12.5 seconds. An even more powerful version is available in the 500-horsepower supercharged Shelby GT500, the most powerful factory-produced Mustang ever built.

it's true... like they say I'm a "bad driver" because I have two accidents... but I drive 10x more than the average driver, and I'm one of the best drivers at work... but that doesn't affect my premiums at all.

And neither is the Mustang, so therefor, if the mustang is leading a market it's not even a part of, shouldn't Jeep do the same?

Re: Mustang Still The Most Popular Sports Car

Now a days it's really hard not to consider it a sports car because it's putting out over 300hp right from the showroom floor.

Back in the 70s and early 80s, even with the whole gas crunch thing, I woul'd ve had a hard time calling it a "sports car" since it was a pretty weak vehicle, but once the 1987 models got pushed over the 200hp mark, they really began to make their mark again.

Re: Mustang Still The Most Popular Sports Car

so for ha ha's i went to the great Wiki for my answer

Quote:
A sports car is an automobile designed for performance driving. Most sports cars are rear-wheel drive, have two seats, two doors, and are designed for precise handling, acceleration, and aesthetics. A sports car's dominant considerations are: superior road handling, braking, maneuverability, low weight, and high power, rather than passenger space, comfort, and fuel economy.

Sports cars can be either luxurious [1] or Spartan, but driving mechanical performance is the key attraction. Drivers regard brand name and the subsequent racing reputation and history (Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus, etc.) as important indications of sporting quality, but brands such as Lamborghini, which do not race or build racing cars also are highly regarded.

A car may be a sporting automobile without being a sports car. Performance modifications of regular, production cars, such as sport compacts, sports sedans, muscle cars, hot hatches and the like, generally are not sports cars, yet share traits common to sports cars. Often, performance cars of all configurations are grouped as Sports and GT cars, or, occasionally, as performance cars

A sports car does not require a large, powerful engine, though many do have them. Some classic British sports cars lacked powerful engines, but were known for exceptional handling due to light weight, a well-engineered, balanced chassis, and modern suspension. On tight, twisting roads, such an automobile performs more effectively than a heavier, more powerful car with less maneuverability.

What sport can you play with a mustang? lol

A mustang is a straight line vehicle, none of this twisty shennanigans without a lot of work.

With that definition, I can think of several full size pickups, a jeep, and many sedans that are sports cars....

Sports car = 2 seats...no back seat.

Well obviously you have to have the body/platform to be considered a "car" in the first place, nevermind "sports car". I figured that would've been obvious enough that I doidn't need to mention it

Not really. Have plenty of fun in the Bullitt, especially with the factory upgraded swaybars, tokico blues, and eibachs. It doesn't take that much at all to get them to turn. I see several guys out here autocross STOCK V6's and they do just fine.
