I don't see how these guys are geniuses. A rabbit with a stick could make a gory movie with a plot like that.

Quote:
A grindhouse is an American term for a theater that mainly showed exploitation films, or is a term to describe the genre of films that played in such theatres (which are also known as "exploitation films"). Grind-houses were known for non-stop programs of B movies, usually consisting of a double feature where two films were shown back to back. Many of these inner-city theatres formerly featured burlesque shows which featured "bump and grind" dancing, leading to the term "grind-house." Beginning in the late 1960s and especially during the 1970s, the subject matter of exploitation films shown in these theaters often included explicit sex, violence, bizarre or perverse plot points, and other taboo content. Many grind-houses were exclusively pornographic.
Quote:
Exploitation films is a loosely defined term to describe a film genre that typically sacrifice the traditional notions of artistic merit for a more sensationalistic display, often featuring excessive sex, violence, and gore. Such films have existed since the earliest days of moviemaking, but they were popularized in the 1970s with the general relaxing of cinematic taboos in the U.S. and Europe.

The word "exploitation" itself is an old show business term for publicizing shows and motion pictures. "Exploitation films" are those whose success relied not on the quality of their content, but on the ability of audiences to be drawn in by the advertising of the film (for example, a common device used by the more notorious exploitation films is to advertise the banning of a film in a certain country). Ephraim Katz, author of The Film Encyclopedia, has defined exploitation as:

Films made with little or no attention to quality or artistic merit but with an eye to a quick profit, usually via high-pressure sales and promotion techniques emphasizing some sensational aspect of the product

The genre's influence on contemporary cinema can be found in such films as Kill Bill and Grindhouse, both by director Quentin Tarantino (who is a self-declared lover of exploitation cinema). The same could be said about Rob Zombie's debut film House of 1000 Corpses, and its sequel The Devil's Rejects. Since the 1990s, this genre has also received attention from academic circles, where it is sometimes called paracinema.

Pulp Fiction and Dusk 'Till Dawn were brilliant movies (more so Pulp Fiction). You have to look at the artwork of the movie. The soundtrack, the camera work, the story, special effects, the whole package. It's not just gore, it's how it is presented.

I did say that...this movie looks like it is a b-rated cinemax after midnight special that you stay up late and watch hoping your parents don't catch you when you are 10 years old.

Other than that...it looks great.

Now, pulp fiction was amazing...this looks like a pile o' turd.

I have no doubt...I'm just saying it looks like it sucks donkey balls....there are a lot of movies that make a ton of dough that really suck...look at Borat...not sure on it's numbers, but that movie was easily the worst I have ever seen...it made money and everyone still talks about it like it was hilarious...same with that piece o' turd about the high school nerd (damn, that rhymed)...um...Napolean Dynomyte...lots of turds make a lot of money...doesn't make it a good movie though.

And...this...definitely looks like a pile o' turd.

That was intentional. They made the movies look like they came out of the 70's style of filmaking. That's the art of the two movies.

Re: Grindhouse Starts Friday!!

Hard to say, because I thought stuff like Dumb and Dumber, Old School, Clerks, Clerks 2, and Blazing Saddles were great...but this movie just looks like crap.

I guess it is because I don't research and worship certain directors and what not like a lot of people I know who are like Nate and Blue that are going to see it not because of content, but because of who made it.

Personally, I don't care about who made it, I care more for if it looks like it could keep my attention for 90-120 (sometimes more) minutes. And this looks like I would have no problem going to take a giant dump after the previews and coming back for the credits.

Re: Grindhouse Starts Friday!!

<<<< I'm obviously a fan of Blazing Saddles. A good way to judge how good a movie is to watch it a few times. Have you ever noticed that the more you watch a movie, the more you see the mistakes that have been made. Like, in one shot you'll see a blue car parked in the background and in the next shot it's gone. A good movie will not have many mistakes.

Also, a good movie will tell a story by using different camera angles and the soundtrack. One of the best examples of this is the old Clint Eastwood (Italian) Westerns. I think it was The Good The Bad and The Ugly where all three are in a cirlce in the middle of the graveyard getting ready to shoot it out for the gold when the camera starts to pan through different close ups going faster as the intensity of the moment rises. That's a fkn good movie.

In Dusk Til Dawn, who could forget the scene with Salma Hayek dancing with the albino snake? I was hypnotised just like the characters in the movie were, freakin drooling while she was dancing. Think about it, it's hard to transfer what the characters are feeling to Joe fat guy sitting in the theater shoving down a gallon of popcorn.

Re: Grindhouse Starts Friday!!

Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy were awesome!

BTW, I am not simply seeing these movies because of who made them. If you showed me the trailors without telling me who made it, I would still want to go see it.

Dollars Trilogy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

The Dollars Trilogy, also known as The Man with No Name Trilogy, refers to the three Spaghetti Westerns starring Clint Eastwood and directed by Sergio Leone:

* A Fistful of Dollars (1964)
* For a Few Dollars More (1965)
* The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)

Although it was not Leone's intention, the three movies came to be considered as a trilogy following the exploits of the same "Man With No Name" (Eastwood, wearing the same clothes and acting with the same mannerisms). The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is usually considered a prequel, since Eastwood's character gradually acquires the clothing he wears in the other two films.

The only other actor to appear in all three movies besides Eastwood is Mario Brega, who plays a different character in each movie, all of them ill-fated.

Actors who have appeared twice in the trilogy (all of them playing different characters):

* Lee Van Cleef
* Gian Maria Volonté
* Luigi Pistilli
* Joseph Egger
