Emergenecy Vote!!

Ok so my neighbor owns a body shop. He told me that he needs someone who is meticulous and has a good eye on quality and what looks good. He said that he thinks Id be good for what he needs based on how I keep my car and my parents cars/trucks. He told me I would be doing general help like detailing and said he show me how to use and apply filler, prep for paint and what not. So he offered me a job in auto body and fender which Ive never done before. I want to do it but on the other hand its like, what happens if I mess this up? Im going to learn body work one way or another soooo, I was thinking about accepting his offer. I just wanted your guys and gals opinion on it?

Should I stay working at Kohl's in C/S (which kinda really sucks)
or
Should I take a chance and accept my neighbors offer

(I Hope the poll works but I don't think I did it right lol)

Re: Emergenecy Vote!!

My Lord, I've dreamed of getting an offer like that! I have not one clue about how to do anything to vehicles, but I want to do things like your neighbor wants you to do. Sure, your going to make a mistake or two, but I'm sure your neighbor knows that you will be learning from scratch, right?! And how could you ask and need an opinion about what to do...Kohl's or Autobody!?....lol.

Go for it! This could open the doors to many new things! Don't sit at Kohls day dreaming what would've happened if I took that job!

Based on your post, I'm guessing you're fairly young, so take a chance, you can afford too. If it doesn't work out you have plenty of time to switch gears and do something else.

I'll give you some advise you can use the rest of your life...

Money isn't made staying where you're comfortable. If you can afford to take the risk of something new...go for it. Being trained in something new is never a bad idea and you never know where it will help you in the future.

That's some great advice....that's why i'm waiting to pay off my debt and move out of my comfort zone of a job and go elsewhere to make a better living and $. I'm guessing you're that guru on top of the mountain that everyone climbs to see for advice.

Re: Emergenecy Vote!!

the problem with someone who is primary a detail guy... those are the first jobs cut at the first signs of trouble. If you are living at home or can take a risk such that you might end up unemployed for months if this job fails then you may consider it if it will help you in your future goals or it pays a lot more.

I agree. Peace of mind over money. I think you should accept your neighbor's offer. I hope I come across something awesome soon because work has been ridiculous lately.

The body shop is more but that is NOT why I took the offer. I love cars (actuality I only love Fords) and its more of an addiction thats needs to be filled so learning some body work and getting paid to do what I enjoy is better then getting paid a **** load and hating the job.

I'd work a job I hated for a ****load of money. I'd spend that money on things I love(girlfriend, mustang, flat-screen TV's, etc) and counterbalance it

You spend the majority of your week at work... Sorry, I work at a job I hate and I can't wait to get out of here, and I so would for less money too,

Leave on good terms in case you decide to come back. In this economy, some people are just lucky to have a job.

Not always. No sense in taking a higher paying job if you're going to be miserable - never a good thing.

Thankfully Im a hard worker and do well at anything I try and Kohl's really likes me (or so they say). So with that said I always gave a notice or something when ever I leave a job because I have an image to uphold (I hate when people think that Im a stupid punk kid when I really am not). But today was the first day and I will say it was a blast.
