Silly Vette!

Weekends at the ramp can often be entertaining as pleasure boaters and jetskiers are often not as skilled at launching and pulling out their vessels.

Of course, if you are still in the water waiting your turn, the entertainment factor is greatly diminshed! As I was finishing up with dolphin #3, Angie gasped, "Oh my God, that car is in the water!" I looked over to the ramp and immediately replied, "Oh my God! Quick Angie, run back to the boat and get the camera!" Below is basically what we saw.................

that's the driver in the water..

bubbles over the drivers side

It was an amazing thing to witness in person. Angie was watching from the beginning.

She said he was having a little trouble backing the trailer down the ramp to the awaiting jetski at first. He backed the trailer into the water and stopped for a moment.

Apparently, he decided that he needed the trailer in deeper, backed up some more and never stopped until the rear end of the car floated up. He climbed out of the window, scurried up the ramp and stood there holding on to the hood, as if he were trying to keep the vette from floating away.

I think the trailer was holding it in place.

I did initially think to myself, "I can get my trailer off the truck in about two minutes, throw this guy my bow & stern lines to tie off on the car's frame and drag the vette out of the water'".

But then I considered the likelihood that I might also damage his car in the process and be held liable or at the very least need to invest in an attourney to defend my actions.

I also decided that at this point, after floating in saltwater for several minutes, the car is totaled anyway. Besides, I would bet money that I have cussed out this guy before (under my breath of course) for being inconsiderate and slow at the ramp like many jetskiers are.

Apparently, everyone else there had similar thoughts because no one offered any assistance. About 8-10 minutes later, the mighty $60,000 vessel gave up it's battle and succombed to it's fate... A watery grave at the bottom of the ramp.

Anyway, what an interesting experience. I've seen pictures of this before, but to see it from only a couple of feet away...
