Blowout on Interstate 20

32 miles from Augusta, GA. I was traveling from NC back home to Alabama when my rear passenger tire suddenly went flat and the tread separated from the sidewall. Car started shaking and when the tire blew the rear end fishtailed out from under me. Luckily for me, I know how to easily recover from a loss of control like that.

Here are some pics of this fiasco:

Re: Blowout on Interstate 20

Yep definitely one for the records. At least for me. Didn't hurt the car or the rim at all(or me). There wasn't anyone near me on the road when that happened, so I pulled off on the shoulder, put the spare on, and continued on to Augusta where I spent the night and got a new tire the next morning.

Looks like tires are my next upgrade.

I'm looking at getting a set of deep dish black bullet wheels and Nitto 555R tires. Right now I have one brand new Bridgestone Potenza G09 tire and the rest are old lol

The tire was stock I think.

I don't think the warranty or insurance would cover something like that.

Looks similar to what happened to me in the 90 on the way to my own wedding...with a flat spare tire and no jack...

Re: Blowout on Interstate 20

Glad to hear your okay! It's nerve racking when that stuff happens. I once had a double blow out on I-55 approximately 50miles South of Cape Girardeau Mo. Hit a chunk of road. It completely bent 2 wheels. The car was less than a 2 months old and it was my Grandfathers. The spare was worthless since it destroyed 2. They had AAA- who I know despise they said 2-3 hrs before a Tow. Honda was out w/in 40mins.

Sounds like a defect in either installation, or product. How many miles on the tire? Approx tread? Were you the original purchaser of the tire? How old is the tire? Was the air pressure in all tires correct ? If all the above falls within normal specs you may have a claim. If you ever need any assistance around Atlanta just holler. I'll PM you my info. I've got plenty of connections around here.

Returned a PM. And thanks.
It was much less stressful and easier for me to get another tire, which I did. There were a lot of miles on the tires and not much tread left on it from me drifting a few months ago. Plus I had also scrubbed the **** out of a curb the week prior with that same tire, so it's not surprising to me now that it blew.
